  3. Football: Home ties in FA Cup for local clubspublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 3 October 2016

    Both of our remaining clubs in the FA Cup have been handed home ties in today's draw for the fourth qualifying round.

    Kidderminster Harriers will host Weymouth, while Westfields will be at home to Suffolk-based Leiston Town.

    The ties are due to be played on Saturday, 15 October.

  4. Man released on bail after Worcester stabbingpublished at 15:22 British Summer Time 3 October 2016

    A 33-year-old man has been released on bail after being questioned on suspicion of stabbing another man in Worcester on Friday.

    Officers were called to the Hopmarket area of the city after reports of an attack and an injured man was later found on the Sabrina Bridge.

    His injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

    A locally owned and run family business in Herefordshire has scooped two prestigious national awards for its beef.

    Oakchurch Country Department Store at Staunton-on-Wye has been acknowledged for its efforts by two Great Taste awards, one for its rib-eye steak and another for its home-made steak and ale pies.

  7. Travellers face rail disruptionpublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 3 October 2016

    Train services between Birmingham, Bromsgrove, Worcester and Hereford are expected to be affected as Network Rail carries out work on signalling and infrastructure this autumn.

    The firm says it will ultimately improve services, but in the short-term travellers will see some disruption, including overnight closures.

    The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Sajid Javid, has told the Conservative Party Conference he is "determined" to do something" about the issue of housing in the UK.

    The Bromsgrove MP told delegates it was his "number one priority" and the government had a "moral duty" to tackle the shortfall.

  12. 'DIY escape kit' dropped into Worcestershire prison by dronepublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 3 October 2016

    A DIY escape kit has been dropped into a Worcestershire jail by a drone, the Prison Officers Association says.

    A source told the Mail on Sunday yesterday, external the package included hacksaw blades and screwdrivers, as well as drugs.

    A spokesperson for the POA told us the bundle found at HMP Hewell last week also contained mobile phones and sim cards. 

    In response, the Prison Service told us it took a "zero-tolerance" approach to illicit material discovered in jail.

  13. Sascha Kindred awarded highest Herefordshire awardpublished at 12:04 British Summer Time 3 October 2016

    Paralympian Sascha Kindred has been made an honorary Freeman of the County of Herefordshire - the greatest honour the council can bestow on any resident.

    This is the first time this award has been made to an individual.

    After 20 years of competing, Rio saw the last Paralympic appearance by Kindred after a remarkable record.

    He won a total of 62 major championship medals including seven golds at Paralympic Games, 11 golds at World Championships and 14 golds at European Championships during his career.

    The Worcester Warriors Head Coach Carl Hogg admitted it was a great relief to get a win on the board.

    Warriors picked up their first win of the Aviva Premiership season after they beat Newcastle Falcons 11-9 at Sixways yesterday.

    The club are now 10th in the table after five games.

    Two of our local clubs will be in today's fourth-qualifying round draw of the FA Cup. 

    Kidderminster Harriers were 3-2 winners at Lancaster City on Saturday, while Hereford-based Westfields beat Walton Casuals 4-0 at Allpay Park.
