  2. 'Leopard-sized cat believed to have been seen'published at 16:35 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    A "leopard-sized cat" was believed to have been seen on three separate occasions in a field in Upton-upon-Severn, West Mercia Police, external said.

    The force said it had had no reports of livestock injured or killed.  

    Supt Kevin Purcell said: "Like many police forces, we occasionally receive reports of believed sightings of a leopard-sized cat.

  3. Coroner to write to police following teenager's deathpublished at 16:30 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    The Shropshire coroner says he will write to the Chief Constable of West Mercia Police, saying lessons must be learnt from the death of a teenager at the Hill Valley Hotel golf club near Whitchurch.

    An inquest jury concluded this afternoon that "significant police failings" contributed to the death of 18-year-old Tyrone Lock last November.

    In a narrative verdict, the jury said the police inappropriately classed him as a suspect, rather than a vulnerable person, when he ran away from officers and that they should have made a second request for a search helicopter, when their first request was turned down.

    The inquest heard Mr Lock died of hypothermia and that his body was not found for 48 hours. 

    Coroner John Ellery said he would also write to the National Police Air Service, because there had been a "clear misunderstanding".

  4. Golf course inquest finds police failings contributed to Tyrone Lock's deathpublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    An inquest into the death of a teenager at a golf course near Whitchurch has concluded that "significant police failings" contributed to his death.

    A jury in Telford had heard evidence that Tyrone Lock, who was 18 and from Herefordshire, had been taking drugs before he died.

    Lock had fled onto the golf course after police were called to reports he had been acting aggressively and his body was found two days later.

    The inquest this afternoon recorded a narrative verdict.

    Two men have been threatened with a baseball bat and a gun in Malvern, external, police say.

    West Mercia Police said the men, in their 20s, were approached by another three at the junction of Pickersleigh Road and Pickersleigh Avenue (pictured) yesterday at about 19:10.

    Police say a gun was fired but no-one was injured.

    A 24-year-old and a 21-year-old from Malvern have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and are currently in police custody, a force spokesman says.

    A Worcestershire man has been told he can't take a driving test on his steam roller because it doesn't have rubber tyres.

    Neil Urquhart (pictured in the white shirt above), who lives in Redditch, was due to take a test on the vintage machine, which has metal rollers, today. 

    Mr Urquhart explains what happened after he was asked to contact the DVSA.

    When I rang them, they said the condition is that the vehicle must be fitted with rubber tyres for it to be operated on the public highway, which is kind of absurd because how could any road roller work if it only has rubber tyres. It wouldn't flatten the ground properly, would it?"
