  6. Railway station 'firearm' call 'made with good intent'published at 17:39 British Summer Time 12 June 2017

    Officers said a passenger's report about a man supposedly carrying a firearm was "made with good intent", but was ultimately a "false alarm".

    The said they received a call at about 15:50 from a concerned member of the public.

    A 22-year-old man was detained but no weapon was found and police said there was no risk to travellers.

    Foregate Street railway station has now reopened after a false alarm.

    Police say they received a call from a member of the public after a man was thought to have been seen with a gun.

    A man was detained by armed officers but no firearm was found.

    Train operator London Midland says coaches will be picking up passengers after police close Worcester's Foregate Street railway station.

    Buses are expected at about 17:30.

    First bus services have been diverted away from the area as police attend "to a passenger disturbance".

    National Rail says Great Western Railway services between London Paddington and Worcester Foregate Street, Hereford and also Southampton Central and Great Malvern are disrupted.

    About 60 jobs are under threat, as a carpet manufacturer looks set to restructure its business "in a bid to remain market leader".

    Brintons, which has its headquarters in Kidderminster (pictured), has entered a 30-day consultation across its sites in Worcestershire and Telford.

    The weaving of Axminster carpets production is also set to stop at its site in Kidderminster, under the proposals.

    A man and a woman have been arrested after a man was stabbed yesterday evening outside a house on George Street at about 23:00.

    West Mercia Police say a 33-year-old woman and man aged 41 are being questioned on suspicion of aiding and abetting attempted murder.

    A double murderer who killed his mother and her friend in 2015 has been found strangled in his Worcestshire prison cell.

    Gary Lindley, 41 and Billy White, 24, have been charged with his murder and are due to appear at Worcester Crown Court tomorrow.

    Double murderer, Brett Rogers, 25, was jailed for a minimum sentence of 32 years last May.

    Rogers was found in his cell at HMP Long Lartin in Worcestershire last Wednesday.
