  3. File with CPS after animal cruelty reports at hunt kennelspublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    A file is with the Crown Prosecution Service following reports of animal cruelty at hunt kennels.

    Five people have been arrested after video allegedly showed live fox cubs being thrown to a pack of hounds at the kennels of the South Herefordshire Hunt, in Wormelow.

    The five, a 37-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, both from Hereford; a 37-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman, both from Abergavenny; and a 45-year-old man from Powys; were held on suspicion of animal cruelty, but have been released from police bail.

    The arrests were in connection with an alleged offence in May last year.

    West Mercia Police, external said a file was with West Midlands Crown Prosecution Service complex casework unit and the investigation was "live and ongoing".

    Worcestershire's Moeen Ali (pictured below) has been named in England's 16-man Ashes Test squad.

    England, who were whitewashed 5-0 on their last tour of Australia, have included vice-captain Ben Stokes despite his arrest on Monday.

    The all-rounder, 26, has a minor fracture in his right hand but is expected to be fit enough to take a full part in the five-Test tour.

    Stokes was held on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm after an incident outside a nightclub in Bristol.

    Hampshire batsman James Vince and Yorkshire's Gary Ballance are recalled, but Essex's Tom Westley misses out.

    Uncapped Somerset seamer Craig Overton, 23, is preferred to Mark Wood, who remains troubled by an ankle injury.

    The number of cars being stolen in the West Mercia area has risen by more than 25% in the past three years.

    Figures from RAC Insurance show in 2013, 291 vehicles were taken, but last year that had gone up to 368.

    West Mercia Police, external said the rise in the recorded crime was down to a need to comply with national crime recording standards.

    A Fiat 500 car with a bonnet decorated by artist Tracey Emin could raise as much as £70,000 when it's auctioned at Brightwells, in Leominster, today.

    It raised £200,000 for charity when it was first auctioned 10 years ago and it's been in a private collection ever since.

  10. Banker guilty of murders 'planning to appeal'published at 11:40 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    A former Worcestershire schoolboy (pictured), who was jailed for life in Hong Kong last year for the murders of two Indonesian women, is planning to appeal, his lawyer said.

    Former British banker Rurik Jutting, who is in his early thirties, denied murdering Sumarti Ningsih and Seneng Mujiasih, but pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

    The jury found him guilty of murder.

    According to Reuters, Jutting's lawyer, Michael Vidler, said his appeal hearing would take place on 12 December.

    He added that the appeal would focus on the "directions given by the deputy judge to the jury", the agency reported.

    Dolphin Leisure Centre prohibits tails as they "can cause injury to other swimmers" and "irregular currents".

    Worcestershire have been guaranteed promotion to the first division of the County Championship because Northamptonshire cannot now overtake them.

    Northants have been bowled out for 202, replying to Leicestershire's first innings total of 128, so they have only claimed one batting bonus point and can only reach 217 points, even if they win.

    Worcestershire are playing Durham at New Road and have already claimed five bonus points in the match, so have reached 221 points.

    Durham resume their first innings on 142 for 5 with the Pears just needing another 4 wickets to ensure they're going up.

    People in Hereford may see the smoke and debris from a helicopter crash in the city today, but there's no need to be alarmed.

    The crash at Rotherwas is an emergency response exercise rehearsing the region’s civil and military response to an aircraft collision.

    The initiative near to Chapel Road (pictured) involves the RAF, police and fire and ambulance services plus the Environment Agency and Herefordshire Council.

    Motorcycle thefts in the West Midlands have risen by more than half in the first six months of this year, according to the Motorcycle Action Group.

    The number of bikes stolen between January and June increased by 51% compared with same period in 2016.

    Riders are being warned the rise could be due to vehicles being stolen to carry out crime.

    Four hundred robberies by riders were recorded during the last three years.

  16. Victims of contaminated blood scandal welcome damages rulingpublished at 09:01 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    A man who contracted Hepatitis C and HIV from contaminated blood products he was given as a child, is welcoming a ruling allowing victims to seek damages.

    Lawyers for the Department of Health argued this ruling was "premature" as there was a public inquiry pending.

    Thousands of NHS patients were given blood products from abroad that were infected with hepatitis C and HIV in the 70s and 80s. At least 2,400 people died.

    Andy Evans, from Evesham, is now chair of the Tainted Blood campaign group.
