    Beverley has come out on top in the East Riding of Yorkshire Council's Best Bar None Awards which aims to raise the standards of pubs in the county.

    The town picked up five of the seven awards, with the King's Head being named as the overall winner.

    The Cross Keys won the Best Pub Award and The Queen's Head the Best Independent Bar Award.

    The East Riding Theatre picked up two awards, one for Best New Entrant and one for Best Entertainment Venue.

    Outside Beverley the award for the Best Food-led pub went to the Benjamin Fawcett in Driffield and the Best Community Premises went to the Wrygarth Inn in Great Hatfield.

    Primary school children in Hull were asked what they think the city will look like when they are nearly 90.

    Hull wants to become a skateboarding friendly city. 

    The council says that after significant investment on 10 new skateboarding sites within some parks it hopes to raise the profile of the city.

    Council officials say skateboarding is set to become more popular as it becomes a recognised Olympic sport in Tokyo 2020.

    The council says it plans to design new public spaces and buildings with skateboard friendly areas built-in.

    The government's promising to keep up spending on flood defences on the Humber. 

    The Conservative MP for Cleethorpes, Martin Vickers, raised the issue in the Commons recalling major flooding in the area three years ago.

    He told MPs about the tidal surge in December 2013 and asked for reassurance that money would still be spent on the region's flood defences.

    Environment Minister and Suffolk Coastal MP, Therese Coffey told him he didn't have to worry. 

    She said the schemes that have already been planned will go ahead. 

  7. Calls for support after contaminated blood scandalpublished at 15:32 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2016

    The Hull North MP Diana Johnson says ministers need to look again at plans for a new support scheme for the victims of the NHS contaminated blood scandal. 

    Health service failings in the 1970s and 1980s saw hundreds of people infected with hepatitis C and HIV. 

    The government set out plans earlier this year for a reformed system of support. 

    Ms Johnson raised the case of Hull resident Glen Wilkinson in the Commons earlier.

    Looking for life's "sunshine and rainbows" after the death of his wife at the age of 30 has proved a harrowing time for Jamie Curtis-Barrett.

    But his wife Leanne's battle against breast cancer and her approach to finding out that the disease had returned  - and was terminal  - gave him the strength to cope.

    It has defined his new life as a single parent of two young children and continues to give him the inspiration to chase his snooker dreams.

    "She is what gets me through everything," the 32-year-old told BBC Sport, prior to his debut appearance tonight at this week's UK Championships in York.

    An investigation has begun to find out how a Hull man ended up with serious injures, external in the street last Friday night. 

    A passer-by saw the 45-year-old and stopped to help him outside the pharmacy on the corner of Great Union Street at around 23:30. 

    The man had serious injuries to his face and body but it's not know how he got those.

    Police are treating it as unexplained and are appealing for information.

    An investigation has started after an arson attack where a wheelie bin was set on fire and pushed against the door of a flat.

    The bin was left outside the property on Stanage Walk in Grimsby at around 22:15 GMT on Tuesday.

    The fire caused extensive damage to the door and bin but luckily no one was in the property at the time.

    Grimsby Town's former defender Paul Futcher has died, external after his battle with cancer, aged 60.

    At the UK Open Snooker championships Grimsby's Jamie Curtis-Barrett admits he faces a difficult test tonight as he takes on the world number nine Joe Perry. 

    Curtis-Barrett is in his first year as a professional player and has also suffered personal tragedy with the death of his wife at the age of just 30 due to breast cancer.
