    The Hessle Foreshore is the most littered beach in our region. 

    That’s according to the results of a national beach survey organised by the Marine Conservation Society.

    Volunteers counted almost 4,500 items of litter on the foreshore per 100 metres, compared to less than 300 in the Bridlington and Flamborough area.

    There are three flood alerts in place for River Foulness and Market Weighton catchment and Burstwick and Keyingham drains in the East Riding. 

    There is also a flood alert in place for the Humber tributaries in North East Lincolnshire.

    The Environment Agency does expect water levels across our region to slowly recede today.

    The Ministry of Justice says there's no evidence of powdered alcohol in an East Yorkshire prison. 

    There were reports at the weekend which suggested that "dry booze" had been brought in to HMP Full Sutton near Pocklington by female visitors.

    There are fears of a growing 'east-west' divide in the north if funding continues to go to cities such as Manchester and Liverpool over Yorkshire.  

    Northern cities

    The north west has more government funding set aside for infrastructure projects than Yorkshire does over the next five years. 

    There are 88 projects proposed for the north west and only 29 for Yorkshire and the Humber area.

    Beverley Racecourse has won a top racing industry prize - for a donkey derby featuring professional jockeys.

    The race, held in May, won the Top Spot prize at the Racecourse Association annual awards. 

    The course took the prize for the most creative idea for engaging the race going public.
