    There's some positive news for the tourism industry - latest figures show the number of people coming to Yorkshire is on the rise.

    Visit Britain says there was a 12% increase in visits and a 21% increase in overnight stays in the three months between July and September last year compared with the same period in 2015. 

    The amount of money tourists spent in Yorkshire also rose significantly last summer - with tourism bringing in £194m to the region's economy.

    The MP for Grimsby today agreed that there were missed opportunities to protect a four year old from the town who died after being forced to take drugs by her mother.

    Poppy Widdison collapsed at her home in Grimsby in June 2013 and died later in hospital.

    Her mother Michala Pyke and ex-partner John Ritting were jailed for 13 years each yesterday for child cruelty.

    The chair of the Hornsea Area Regeneration Partnership has been reacting to the news the town is to get £10,000 to come up with a regeneration plan.

    The money will come from the Department for Communities and Local Government.

    A man charged with murdering a fellow patient at a psychiatric hospital in Scunthorpe is due before Hull Crown Court today. 

    Twenty-six-year-old Jamie Reed from Crowle is charged in connection with the death of  Robert Stephen McNeil, 60, at Great Oaks Hospital on Monday.

    Initial investigations suggest last weekend's storm played a role in 3,000 people in Withernsea losing their gas supplies

    That's according to Northern Gas Networks.

    The company says investigations into the chain of events leading to the failure are still ongoing and equipment has been sent away for forensic analysis.

    Hornsea is to get £10,000 from the government to help draw up a plan to improve economic growth and job creation in the town.

    It's part of a series of government grants aimed at revitalising the British coastline. 

    A number of towns in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire have been given similar funding in recent years.

    An 11-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted as she was made her way to school yesterday.

    Humberside Police say they were called shortly before 09:00.

    The incident is said to have happened on George Street where the girl was pushed over by an unknown man. She was able to fight him off, reporting the incident when she got to school. 

    The girl was unhurt but the police are asking anyone with information to get in touch.

    A memorial is to be put up in North Lincolnshire to remember a deer who died after being attacked by a dog earlier this week.

    Daphne, who often appeared near the Water's Edge Visitor Centre in Barton, was put down after being found injured in the park on Wednesday.

    North Lincolnshire Council are appealing for information about the attack and would like to hear from people who would be able to weave a memorial sculpture of Daphne.
