    There's concern about the burden the upcoming general election is having on local council workers in East Yorkshire and North East Lincolnshire.

    Thousands of people will work on the election this year, from returning officers to vote counters.

    But John Turner, chief executive of the Association of Electoral Administrators, says the system already came close to collapse last year, because of back-to-back elections:

    Humberside Police have issued a CCTV image of a man they want to speak in connection with a burglary in Reedness last month.

    The burglary took place on Monday 3 April at a property on Main Street.

    During the incident, a burglar entered a house through an unlocked door, but soon soon left after being disturbed by the occupants.    

  10. Hull project aims to tackle sticky problempublished at 17:44 British Summer Time 16 May 2017

    A creative community project in Hull is aiming to teach children the importance of disposing of their chewing gum properly.

    Creative Briefs has been given money to hold workshops in several schools across the city which will see children designing special chewing gum bins. 

    The people behind the project say they hope it will help to protect the newly-installed pavements in the city centre.

    Humberside Police are keen to speak to him about an incident of grievous bodily harm they are investigating.

    His last known address is in Wellesley Avenue, Hull.

  13. Fresh rail strikes announced at end of Maypublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 16 May 2017

    Staff at Northern Rail will stage another day of strike action at the end of the month. 

    It's the fourth day of industrial action, in recent months, in a row over plans to change the role of conductors. 

    The RMT union says workers will walk out on the 30 May, the day after the bank holiday.

  15. Sex assault retired Methodist minister to face jailpublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 16 May 2017

    A retired Methodist minister has been found guilty of indecently assaulting four boys after he tried to hypnotise them.

    John Price, aged 82, from Bedale in North Yorkshire abused the boys when he worked in York and Pocklington during the late 1970s and 80s. 

    Price was found guilty of all 13 counts of indecent assault on the boys who were aged  between 11 and 17 years old at time. 

    He was remanded in custody and was told he will face prison when he is sentenced on 13 June.

    So far, we've re-funked our junk, made "happy" food, and formed a conga of culture.

    Hull Kingston Rovers head coach Tim Sheens says he's not worried about facing Super League opposition in the Middle 8s.

    The Robins boss says his players have plenty of time to prepare for the competition and "it's just another game".

    "Admittedly, I'm not silly enough to say it's not a big game, but the boys area ready for that. You don't have to lift players for those sorts of events," says Sheens.

    "If anything, you've got to stay calm and cool about how we're going to play this game," he adds.

    Arcade Fire, one of the world's biggest bands, are to play at The Baths Hall in Scunthorpe, it's been announced.

    The Canadian rock band will play there on 7 June, with the gig played "in the round" with the stage in the middle of the crowd.
