In his statement yesterday on the club's website, external, Mr Allam said while the Tigers had "ultimately fallen short", the improvement seen in the team under Marco Silva's leadership was "clear for all to see".

Mr Allam added there would be "more frequent communication to supporters" over the summer.

Responding, Geoff Bielby, chair of Hull City Supporters' Trust, said it was "good to hear" there would be more communication as it was "something the trust has been seeking for a long while".

"Communication has to be two-ways, though. It's got to be meaningful dialogue and that means the club listening to fans' opinions and, more importantly, acting on those opinions," said Mr Bielby.

    Kimberley Metcalfe
BBC Local Live, Hull and East Yorkshire

More on the news that Hull's second Street Food Night has been postponed after the first event in April saw 13,000 people turn up in Holy Trinity Square.

The nights were planned to happen once a month until September, but it was announced yesterday that the May date has now been cancelled.

Kathryn Shillito, from the HullBID business organisation, says the event needs expanding to accommodate the size of the crowd and, as a result, stallholders have agreed to cancel next week's event:

    Quote Message

We hope we will soon be able to confirm a date in June for the second Hull Street Food Night. It's unfortunate that we have had to postpone the event scheduled for Thursday 25 May, but it takes time to organise more stalls and more entertainment."
