    More tickets have gone on sale for Hull's New Music Biennial, external which aims to open people's ears to new music from all genres.

    The event runs from 30 June to 2 July and it's the first time Hull has hosted to the event.

    NMB organisers say: "We aim to reach new audiences for contemporary music and encourage ideas for short works no longer than 15 minutes duration which could be performed in a range of settings."

    People visiting Hull for City of Culture 2017 will now be able to stay in the city an hour later thanks to a new train service announced today.

    Launching on Monday, the new TransPennine Express service will leave Hull at 22:33 and call at Brough, Selby, Leeds, Dewsbury and Manchester Victoria.

    Along with this, a 22:07 Hull to Leeds train is also being introduced on Sundays, calling at Brough and Selby.

    Scunthorpe United's chairman has revealed new land has been earmarked for the team's intended new stadium.

    It follows a long history of delays in the process of planning and building a new home for the Iron.

    Speaking on Sportstalk last night, chairman Peter Swann said the new location is better than the spot they previously had their eye on.

    A former RAF watchtower which was dismantled from its site in North Lincolnshire and moved to the US is to reopen after it was rebuilt in Virginia.

    Goxhill was the first RAF site handed to the United States Army Air Forces in 1942 and was used by the Americans as a training base.

    The site's watch office was later acquired by the Military Aviation Museum in 2003, before being taken down brick by brick and shipped to Virginia Beach.

    Museum Director Mike Potter said the tower was "something of a shrine to many visitors, and it is a distinct honour to be able to offer guests the only experience of its type in our country".

    "The entire control tower was taken apart and transported, right down to the brickwork and the loos," he added.

    A free showing of award-winning travel photographs has opened in Hull.

    The Travel Photographer of the Year Awards is staging the outdoor exhibition at Princes Dock Street.

    The show is part of the second season of Hull's year as UK City of Culture. Entitled Roots and Routes, it aims to celebrate Hull's role as a major port and its international connections.

    The awards began in 2003 and accept entries from amateurs, semi-professionals and professionals.

    Campaigners calling for the re-opening of the Beverley to York rail line say they hope it can move a step closer to becoming reality.

    The Department for Transport has carried out a feasibility study into the move, BBC Radio Humberside has learned.

    Representatives of the Minsters Rail Campaign, which wants the railway re-instated, are due to meet the Local Enterprise Partnership today to try to secure funding for a more detailed survey.

    They want to see the 34-mile line reopened as a fully operational part of the national rail network, but the estimated cost of the scheme would be more than £200m.

    The line was closed in the 1960s under the Beeching cuts.

    A teenage boy's mobile phone and bike have been stolen during a violent attack on a street in Grimsby.

    The incident happened at about 22:00 on Tuesday near the footbridge over the River Freshney on Cartergate.

    The boy was approached by a group of men, one of whom who hit him in the face before another took his bike and iphone.

    The men are all described as white with local accents and wearing dark, hooded tracksuit-type clothing.

    The boy's face was left reddened but he did not require hospital treatment.

    The stolen blue and yellow Carrera Hellcat mountain bike and the boy's silver and black iphone 6 have not yet been recovered.

  12. New lock gates set to open up Pocklington Canalpublished at 10:20 British Summer Time 18 May 2017

    New lock gates on Pocklington Canal are expected to allow a further two miles of the waterway to be opened up to navigation.

    The gates are due to be installed at Thornton Lock, with two miles of the canal set to be dredged as part of a quarter-of-a-million-pound project.

    The work will be finished next year.

    People at Endsleigh Holy Child Academy have been seen parking on double yellow lines and blocking driveways at home time.

    Westminster's coming to Grimsby today as young voters are given the chance to find out why their vote matters.

    The Parliamentary Outreach Service will be at the University Centre in the town to talk to students about how decisions made by Parliament directly affect them and others.

    Only 43% of 18 to 24-year-olds cast a ballot at the last general election - and there are only four days left for people to register to vote in next month's general election.

    Today's event in Grimsby aims to explain how young people can register to vote and how Parliament works.

    A report by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch into a plane crash at Withernsea, external has called for pilots to be told about the risks of landing at the airfield there.

    Robert Hitchcock's plane came down into the sea

    Robert Hitchcock's plane went over a nearby cliff and into the sea after he landed at the private Hollym Airfield runway on the coast in August last year.

    Mr Hitchcock suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital.

    Pilots will now be warned of the dangers of the airstrip, which is right beside the cliff edge.
