    Bridlington's new lifeboat has been lowered in to the water for the first time.

    The ceremony happened yesterday at Poole's RNLI Headquarters in Dorset, where crowds heard a crew member ring a bell eight times in keeping with tradition.

    The boat will now undergo trials before being released into service.

    This year's Tour de Yorkshire generated a record breaking £64m for the local economy, according to independent research by Leeds Beckett University.

    The race weekend in April saw more than two million spectators line the route and spend 8% more than last year.

    Those involved in organising the annual race said they're overwhelmed by the support it's received.

    A court's heard a man was killed in his room at a mental health unit near Scunthorpe, in between staff visits which took place every 15 minutes.

    Jamie Reed, 26, admits killing 60-year-old Robert MacNeill, at Great Oaks (pictured) in the early hours of 16 January but Reed says it was manslaughter by diminished responsibility, and denies murder.

    The trial continues.

  14. Hull could get a new secondary schoolpublished at 17:15 British Summer Time 4 July 2017

    Plans are underway to open a new secondary school in Hull by September 2019 - probably in an existing building.

    The school would be run by the Constellation Trust, which oversees the two Sirius Academies and six primary schools in Hull.

    It's expected the school would eventually have around 800 pupils but would open in two years' time with just 150 in Year 7.

  15. Hull infirmary not clad in same material as Grenfell Towerpublished at 16:50 British Summer Time 4 July 2017

    Hull and East Yorkshire NHS Trust has confirmed that the cladding used on the Hull Royal Infirmary Tower Block (pictured) is not the same aluminium cladding material which was used on Grenfell Tower.

    Samples of the building materials were sent off for testing.

    More than £1m of lottery funding has been awarded to 67 projects across Yorkshire and the Humber.

    Some of those projects include Hull's United Foundation Amateur Boxing Academy, which has been given almost £10,000 to teach youngster to box - giving them a recognised qualification and helping to reduce obesity.

    In Winterton, a group which runs activities for older people with physical disabilities and works to combat loneliness has also received £10,000 and in Hull the CatZero project has got £5,500 to help young people gain computer skills to help them into work.

  17. North Lincolnshire Council to spend £13.5m on school improvementspublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 4 July 2017

    North Lincolnshire Council is to invest £13.5m on refurbishment and maintenance projects in schools across North Lincolnshire in the next three years.

    Key projects will include building maintenance, increasing provision to meet demand for early years places and increasing provision for children with special educational needs.

    Further investment will also be provided to meet the demand of 30 hours free childcare for working parents of three and four-year-olds.

    Police are appealing for help in identifying a man (pictured) who is wanted in connection with a common assault on Alexandra Pier in Bridlington.

    It was reported that offensive comments were made and items of food were thrown at a woman shortly before 16:00 on Friday 16 June.

    An art project representing the oppression experienced by victims of hate crime has opened at Hull Minster today.

    Artist Annabel McCourt has designed the installation (pictured), which looks like an electric fence, and uses modern technology to enhance the experience for the public.

    It'll be open until the end of September as part of Hull UK City of Culture's Freedom season.

  20. Sport: East Yorkshire's Kyle Edmund through to next round of Wimbledonpublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 4 July 2017

    Kyle Edmund fought back to claim his first Wimbledon win and end the hopes of fellow Briton and world number 869 Alex Ward.

    Edmund, ranked 50th, won 4-6 6-3 6-2 6-1 on court three to reach the second round for the first time - at the fifth time of asking.

    Ward, 27, had come through qualifying to take his place in the main draw.

    Edmund, 22, goes on to face French 15th seed Gael Monfils or Daniel Brands of Germany in round two.
