    Hull City Council have confirmed that it has bid for the city to be the new home of Channel 4.

    Earlier this year the Culture Secretary, Karen Bradley, announced the government wants "the benefits of this national asset to be spread far and wide, not just in London".

    Today Hull City Council has confirmed it will be bidding to bring the broadcaster to the region, with the newly redeveloped Fruit Market just one of the possible locations.

    But it will face stiff competition, as a number of cities including Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield and Cardiff have also revealed they will be in the running.

    Humberside Police have raised concern over the safety of 50-year-old Helen Webb from Langtoft near Driffield.

    Helen was reported missing from her home on Scarborough Road in Langtoft at 11.50 today.

    She is described as white, 5'11” with purple coloured hair and has tattoos on both arms.

    A Hull charity that helps refurbish veterans' homes and gardens has unveiled its first show garden.

    Hull 4 Heroes are exhibiting at the RHS Tatton Flower Show.

    They hope to raise awareness of post traumatic stress disorder, as well as inspiring veterans to create their own gardens.

    A fortress built for King Henry VIII in Hull in the mid 16th century will be rediscovered this week as Humber Field Archaeology mark out the lines of its buried walls.

    Pupils from Victoria Dock Primary School will be there to learn more about the site so close to their school.

    It will be open to the public tomorrow and Thursday.

    The potential development of the South Blockhouse as a visitor attraction has been included as part of the Hull Old Town Heritage Action Zone, an initiative funded by Historic England to help make heritage a key part of the city’s regeneration.

    An East Yorkshire man with Motor Neurone Disease is climbing Mount Snowdon today in a specially adapted 4x4 wheelchair.

    Jason Liversidge is raising money for local charities Dove House Hospice and Marie Curie.

    A cyclist involved in a collision with a car in Bridlington at the weekend has died of his injuries.

    At 17:30 on Sunday, a blue Citroen Berlingo collided with a cyclist on the A614 at the junction with Bessingby Gate in Bridlington.

    The 18 year-old cyclist was air-lifted to Middlesborough hospital but died of his injuries on Monday afternoon.

    Humberside Police are still appealing for witnesses.

    A Hull dad has written a book of poetry after his son committed suicide.

    The poems follow the loss of Trevor Hughes' son, Peter - a gifted national chess champion, and author of a novel, 'Closing Time'. He took his own life from the Humber Bridge at the age of 25, just weeks after being diagnosed with schizophrenia, although he had experienced mental health problems for many years.

    "Radical action" is needed to deal with dangerous pollution levels in northern cities.

    The Institute for Public Policy Research says the government needs to do more to improve public transport and encourage people to use electric cars.

    Humberside Police say the body of a man was discovered on Station Road in Howden at 20:00 yesterday.

    The body has not been formally identified, however, it is believed to be that of missing Craig Farrow.

    An investigation is being carried out to determine how the man died. At this time the circumstances are not thought to be suspicious.

    More properties in east Hull are getting ultra fast broadband as part of KCOM'S £60m summer rollout.

    Nineteen poles have been installed to supply Lightstream to 182 properties.

    Mark, who lives on Gleneagles Park, contacted the Burnsy Show on Radio Humberside saying that telegraph poles have appeared outside his house without any notice.

    Attempts to save a pub in Hull have taken a musical twist!

    There are fears that the Earl de Grey pub could be demolished to make way for the Castle Street junction improvement works, although no final decision has been made yet.

    Chris Wilson started a petition to save it, which has received over 1,000 signatures - and now he's written a song to help, which will be performed at a festival in the city this weekend.

    The song explores the pub's LGBT and maritime significance - and the timing of it coincides with the build-up to Pride in Hull on Saturday, as well as the Folk and Maritime Festival over the weekend.

    People living near the site of a planned new prison in East Yorkshire say their village can't cope with a second jail.

    The prison, which would be built near to an existing one at Full Sutton near Pocklington, would hold a thousand inmates.

    East Riding of Yorkshire Council will consider the plans on Thursday.

    East Yorkshire is the only part of our area where both men and women can expect to live longer than the national average, according to Public Health England figures released today.

    Life expectancy rates in Hull, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire are all falling below the average for males and females.

    University College London expert Sir Michael Marmot said he was by the national situation, saying it was "entirely possible" austerity was affecting how long people live.

    Hundreds of people are calling for something to be done to stop people racing their cars along Cleethorpes prom.

    Cleethorpes ward councillor Matthew Brown has put a petition together with 400 signatures which he'll present to full council on Thursday. He says the problem has been going on for 30 years.

    Humberside Police say they were aware of the problem and wanted people to contact them with concerns so they could get a full picture of the issue.

    An East Yorkshire man who lost the ability to walk a year ago will attempt to climb one of the highest mountains in Britain today.

    Jason Liversidge, from Rise near Hornsea, suffers from Motor Neurone Disease, but will begin his journey to the top of Mount Snowdon - the highest mountain in Wales - this morning in a specially adapted 4x4 wheelchair.

    He's raising money for local charities.
