    There are concerns that 30 hours of free childcare won't be financially sustainable for nurseries across East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire.

    The government initiative is aimed at helping working parents but the Voice union for education professionals says childcare providers could lose out in the long-term.

    A woman has appeared in court charged with murder following the death of a woman who was assaulted on a street in Hull.

    Joanne Hemingway, 39, died after an incident on Beverley Road on the 29 June.

    Angela Burkitt, aged 53, of Beverley Road, Hull, is charged with murder and witness intimidation.

    She'll next appear in court on 27 October.

    The Yorkshire Regiment says having five men from Hull and East Yorkshire joining the army at the same time is good for morale.

    Some of the new recruits have been meeting the Lord Mayor of Hull this lunchtime before their basic training starts on Sunday.

    The regiment has previously been deployed to places such as Afghanistan and Germany.

    Officials are cracking down on blue badge owners who have been blocking the streets in Driffield.

    Enforcement officers and police visited the town yesterday.

    A spokeswoman for Driffield Town Council said it had been a problem near B&M and Wilko's with buses struggling to get through.

    Preparations are underway for this weekend's acrobatic circus in Hull.

    The event called Epicycle will see internationally acclaimed french circus artists fly through the skies at West Park in Hull.

    Those involved say it promises to be a spectacular display.

    Tata Steel will discover their punishment later after they pleaded guilty to an incident which left employees in Scunthorpe exposed to toxic gases.

    In June 2011 four people were exposed to the toxic gases at the Appleby Coke Ovens.

    A judgement is due at Hull Crown Court today.

    A murder inquiry has begun after a man died following an altercation on Tuesday evening.

    Police were called to an incident between two men, known to each other, at a property on Lee Street.

    Kabelo Sam Mokoena, aged 35, was taken to hospital but died yesterday. The cause of death has not yet been established.

    A 58-year-old man has been arrested and questioned.

    He was later released on bail and the inquiry continues.

    Humberside Police are appealing for witnesses after a 16-year-old boy was knocked off his bike by a car.

    It happened between Guildford Avenue and Gillshill Road in Hull on Monday evening. The driver failed to stop after.

    The boy broke his ankle and was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary.

    Hull's annual food festival begins today.

    This year's YUM festival, external is bigger and has more stalls than previous years.

    The event is being held in Queens Gardens for the next two days, and will have independent traders, street food and other activities.
