  2. Channel 4 coming to Hull 'wouldn't benefit' the cities economypublished at 09:41 British Summer Time 10 August 2017

    Research out today suggests that if Channel 4 moved to Hull, it would not have a significant economic benefit for the city.

    Think tank Centre For Cities have researched the BBC's move to Salford in 2010 and concluded it didn't really have any impact on the Greater Manchester area.

    They think this would be repeated if Channel 4 moved its headquarters to Hull.

    Mark Jones is the Director of Regeneration at Hull City Council, he says the city would be a fantastic place for the company to be based.

    A homeless charity in North East Lincolnshire say they're seeing a rise in people sleeping rough.

    It comes as a national report published by Crisis forecasts rough sleeping to rise by 76% in the next decade.

    Harbour Place in Grimsby say they're providing more services to meet the demand.

    I've been out and about speaking to people sleeping rough. Jack told me why he was sleeping on the street and didn't want to go to a hostel.

    The owner of a travelling circus, which has been criticised by an animal rights group, says his animals are happy and healthy.

    Animal Defenders International had called for people in Scunthorpe to boycott Peter Jolly's Circus because it uses wild animals.

    The circus says it has a licence for its camel, zebras and racoons. An animal welfare officer from North Lincolnshire Council has been to check the site.

    A group of friends from London ended up on a night out in Scunthorpe after playing a game with Saturday's football scores.

    They said they would travel to the first place that scored in the English afternoon kick offs and Conor Townsend's sixth minute goal for The Iron took the honour.

    The night was documented by video blogger Ben Might Say, who said the people in Scunthorpe were friendly and they would go back.

  10. Criticism of North East Lincolnshire Council over flooding responsepublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 9 August 2017

    North East Lincolnshire Council have released a statement saying that they've had all available resources out helping local residents after heavy rain hit the region overnight.

    But residents cleaning up today said they felt let down by the local council's response and "little or no help was offered overnight".

    The Hull postcode is one of the luckiest in the country.

    That's according to the National Lottery, who say a total of 72 people in the city have won a major cash prize in the last five years - 18 of those were made millionaires.

    This ranks the HU postcode third nationally.

    A permanent location has been proposed for a wind turbine blade that formed a temporary art installation for Hull's city of culture celebrations.

    The blade was seen by 1.1m people in 10 weeks after it was installed in Queen Victoria Square in January.

    A planning application has now been submitted to put the 250ft-long (75m) blade on show in the grounds of the Hull factory that made it.

    People have been clearing up in their homes today after torrential downpours caused flooding overnight.

    Homes in Withernsea, Immingham and Grimsby have been affected, with the Humberside and Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue services attending dozens of incidents in the last 24 hours.

    A woman has appeared in court this morning charged with murder, following the death of a woman in Hull.

    Joanne Hemingway, aged 39, (pictured) died following a disturbance on Beverley Road in June.

    Angela Burkitt, aged 53, of Beverley Road, has been remanded in to custody and will appear at Hull Crown court on Friday.

    Two men were arrested this morning after an alleged attempte to steal an ATM machine at Kingswood Retail Park, Hull.

    One of the men tried to escape in a Jeep, colliding with the second man and a police officer.

    Both men aged 35 and 45 were arrested in connection with the incident.

    A police officer sustained a injured leg.
