    Police and council officers are cracking down on drivers who dump their cars in the Selby district.

    There's a warning vehicles will be towed away if they're abandoned, and their owners could be fined up to £2,500.

    It's happening after a big rise in the numbers of cars being dumped, with Selby District Council saying they're a magnet for crime and anti-social behaviour.

    A wanted man who spent almost three days evading arrest on a rooftop in Scunthorpe has been charged with a number of offences, Humberside Police have confirmed.

    Kyle Ferguson, 23, of Salisbury Close in Scunthorpe, is due to appear before Grimsby Magistrates' Court later to face numerous charges.

    Those charges include include criminal damage, affray, burglary, threatening a person with a blade/sharply pointed article in a public place, racially/religiously aggravated intentional harassment and road traffic offences.

    Research carried out in Yorkshire is warning children who try e-cigarettes are more likely to start smoking for real.

    Experts from the University of Leeds claim they've found a "robust association" between vaping and cigarette smoking, and are now calling for further investigations into their statistics.

    They are also warning that vaping may make nicotine consumption seem normal among teenagers.

    There are fears some music venues may have to close in Hull after a decline in attendances.

    Grassroots promoters say the large City of Culture events are sucking people away from local gigs which provide a platform for up and coming bands.

    Darren Bunting is the Manager of O'Rileys on Beverley Road and a local promoter, he fears for the local music scene when the City of Culture leaves.

    Hull UK City of Culture 2017 says it's working closely with the local music scene and has reminded event organisers that they can post details of their events on its website.

    People in a North Lincolnshire village believe the upcoming visit of the Tour of Britain cycle race is a great opportunity to show off the area to future tourists.

    The third stage of the cycle race starts at Normanby Hall on the 5 September and travels across North Lincolnshire before it finishes in Scunthorpe.

    People in Messingham are getting ready for its arrival in just over two weeks time by decorating the streets with green bikes and bunting.

    Businesses are being urged to do their bit for the arts and culture in the Humber region.

    It's part of a new community arts scheme set up by the Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce.

    The Chamber Culture Fund is inviting bids for cash from local individuals and organisations working on art and culture projects.

    Chamber President Phil Ascough, Julian Wild, a solicitor at Rollits LLP, and arts consultants and project directors Elaine Burke and Clare Huby (pictured) will assess the applications.

    The world famous bell will be dismantled on Monday to allow for repairs, and it will be silenced to protect workers' ears.

    Apart from special occasions such as Remembrance Sunday and New Year's Eve, Big Ben's "bongs" won't be heard until 2021.

    Police in East Yorkshire are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist was seriously injured after being knocked from his bike in Goole earlier this month.

    It happened at about 22:30 on Tuesday 1 August on Boothferry Road and left the rider with a fractured wrist and a bruised face and hands.

    A silver Peugeot was involved in the collision but the driver didn't stop.

    Anyone who witnessed the incident is being asked to contact police.

    The head of the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership says businesses would back devolution for Yorkshire or the North, but the impact in our region needs to be carefully considered.

    Former Hull East MP, Lord Prescott, has called for the formation of a "Council of the North" to help secure better government investment and allow more competition with other parts of the UK.

    But Lord Haskins, the former boss of Northern Foods, has said it would have an impact on the South Bank of the Humber region and that must be managed.

    Children as young as 11-years-old were involved in an attack on a bus in Cleethorpes last night, police say.

    Windows on the bus were smashed but fortunately no-one was hurt during the attack, which saw children and young people throwing bricks at the vehicle.

    A number of arrests have been made as a result of the incident, Humberside Police have confirmed.

    It's the latest in a number of anti-social-behaviour incidents in the East Marsh area.
