  2. Football: Burton boss bemoans 'harsh' sending off in Hull defeatpublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 14 August 2017

Irvine had equalised for the Brewers but was then given a second yellow card in the first-half.

Hull scored three times after the break against the 10-men of Burton.

    Quote Message

It was very encouraging how we played in the first half up to the sending-off. The second one was not a booking, I thought it was harsh. The first booking was petulant and I have told him."

Rumours surfaced last week that Hull's scouts were in attendance during Vale's loss at Leeds.

But Brown dismissed the rumours as untrue following Vale's 3-2 defeat against Wycombe.

    Quote Message

I think whoever wrote the article's probably the only person who knows about it. Agents don't know anything about it, clubs don't know anything about it, player doesn't know anything about it so whoever wrote that one, I wonder where he's got it from."

  5. Meningitis: Students urged to get vaccinepublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 14 August 2017

Teenagers aged 17 or 18 in Hull are being urged to get a vaccine against meningitis.

Health leaders say the jab will protect against four strains of meningococcal disease which cause meningitis and septicaemia, known as strains A, C, W and Y.

The injection - known as the Men ACWY vaccine - was first introduced for new university students in the UK in 2015.

    Quote Message

The MenACWY vaccine is one of the best ways we have to protect people from meningitis and septicaemia. Public Health England has reported a rise in cases across England, so it’s important for young people to make sure they protect themselves, particularly before they start at university."

The new pumps, on the banks of the Ouse and Humber rivers, are capable of emptying four Olympic-sized swimming pools in just over an hour.

They are designed to stop water rising in villages like Gilberdyke - which was badly affected by the floods of 2007.

    Wendy Watson on the phone

Wendy Watson MBE, who launched National Hereditary Breast Cancer Helpline in 1996, has resigned as a trustee.

Financial irregularities were uncovered by the Charity Commission, which has issued an official warning for "significant breaches of trust".

Lawyers for Mrs Watson and the charity described the payments as "an error".

Mrs Watson, from Derbyshire, founded the charity four years after she became the first woman in the UK to have a pre-emptive mastectomy.

By 2012, it was raising almost £1m per year from charity shops in Derbyshire, Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, the Humber region and London.

  15. Farmers 'under siege' by rural crime - Reportpublished at 09:54 British Summer Time 14 August 2017

Rural crime has been estimated to cost the UK £39m, with many farmers feeling "under siege" from thieves, a new report shows.

Transport links also mean thieves can steal machinery and move it into mainland Europe in "a matter of hours", according to insurer NFU Mutual's Rural Crime Report

Although the cost has reduced from £41m in 2015, the NFU report says farmyards are becoming "fortresses".

The survey shows the problem costs more than £2m in Lincolnshire and more than £1m in parts of Yorkshire.
