  3. Biologist's drawings on display at Hull's Deeppublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 1 September 2017

    A series of images by German Biologist, Ernst Haeckel will go on show at The Deep from today.

    This is the first time Haeckel’s work has been showcased in a public gallery in the UK since his death in 1919.

    Hundreds of his images were put together to create 10 volumes.

    Many of the organisms included within these collections were first described and classified by Haeckel himself.

    On Saturday it will be a dry and cool start with mist patches clearing. Often dry and sunny. A few light afternoon showers are possible.

    On Sunday it will start off sunny but cloud will increase with some light rain later.

  5. Bridlington's hospital services 'not under threat'published at 17:00 British Summer Time 1 September 2017

    The York Teaching Hospitals Trust says there's no threat to services at Bridlington Hospital because of its financial situation.

    The trust runs Bridlington Hospital and it revealed earlier this week that it will run out of cash soon and is organising loans to tide it over.

    It says its financial problems are partly due to the rising cost of hiring agency and locum staff.

    It says it's working on a financial recovery plan.

    There is still heavy congestion on a number of roads around Hull city centre.

    There are reports of an overturned lorry on Bank Side causing problems to traffic flow.

    The BBC's Carl Wheatley has told us that it's taken him nearly an hour to get from the BBC offices in Hull to Hull Royal Infirmary, a journey which take 10 minutes on a normal day.

  8. Walton Street car park shut from todaypublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 1 September 2017

    The gates on Walton Street car park in Hull are to be locked from today - unless there's a market, football match or another event on at the KCOM Stadium.

    Hull City Council say it's to stop unauthorised access and improve security at around the football ground.

    If you leave you car there it will be locked in and you could get a £75 fine.

  10. Spoil heap to be removed in Grimsbypublished at 15:45 British Summer Time 1 September 2017

    Developers of a site on Humberston Avenue in Grimsby have promised to remove a spoil heap, after complaints from people living locally.

    Initially steps were taken to cover the spoil heap, but it has now been decided to remove it after people living nearby said it ruined the outlook for certain properties.

    Local MP Martin Vickers says he's pleased the developers have listened to the concerns of people.

    The boats are being removed from the River Hull in an attempt to reduce the risk of flooding.

    There are reports of heavy traffic around Hull city centre causing delays to journeys.

    The Hull Explorer, external says its tour bus is experiencing delays of 35 minutes at all stops due to heavy traffic.

    Bus company EYMS , externalsays traffic is a nightmare. They are reporting big queues of traffic around the city centre.

  13. New later bus service for Cherry Burton and Etton residentspublished at 14:44 British Summer Time 1 September 2017

    A bus company is to launch a new service to help two villages near Beverley following a request from residents.

    Villagers in Cherry Burton appealed to councils and bus operators to provide a later service back from Beverley on weekdays, as the last bus currently leaves from the town at 15.35 during school term times, and 15.00 during school holidays.

    As a result, Acklams Coaches, which is based in Beverley, has agreed to divert one of its existing buses to provide a later journey to Cherry Burton and Etton from Beverley.

    The new service will begin Monday 4 September and will run from Monday to Friday, departing from Beverley Sow Hill Bus Station at 17:10 during school term times.

    Three new drinking fountains are opening in Hull City Centre today.

    They've been installed by Yorkshire Water and are designed to take people on a route from King Edward Square to the Marina via Queen's Gardens.

    It's hoped that it will encourage people to drink more water.

    An underwater device used by Icelandic fishermen to sabotage British trawlers during the Cod Wars has been presented to Hull Maritime Museum.

    Warp cutters were developed by the Icelandic Coastguard to cut the nets of foreign vessels during a bitter conflict with the UK, which started when Iceland imposed a limit on how much fish could be caught in its waters in the 1970s.

    It was presented to the museum as part of a visit by civic leaders from Reykjavik.

    In return, a "souvenir of friendship" was presented to Icelandic retired coastguard Gylfi Giersson, Hull City Council said.

  17. Help wanted to find owners of sunken boatspublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 1 September 2017

    People living in East Yorkshire are being asked to help find the owners of 10 sunken boats in the River Hull between Tickton and Beverley Beck.

    East Riding of Yorkshire Council plans to remove the vessels later this month.

    The boats will be re-floated and lifted from the river.

    It's hoped that clearing the river will help improve the flow and reduce the risk of flooding.

    Grimsby's Ice arena is being handed over today, to the people who use it.

    North East Lincolnshire Council had wanted to close the town's rink because it was too expensive for them to run.

    But the Grimsby Ice Rink Community Group campaigned to keep it open.

    The plans which were approved by the council last month will secure the ice-rink's future in the town.
