    There'll be protests today as North East Lincolnshire Council decides whether to change how often bins are collected and how long libraries are open for.

    The council wants to replace the current weekly refuse collection service with fortnightly collections in a bid to save more than £400,000 a year.

    Today's cabinet meeting will also look at plans to reduce library opening hours.

    A protest against the plans will take place outside the meeting.

    A report into an East Yorkshire prison has found it has problems with drugs, staff shortages, assaults and rats.

    The inspection from the Independent Monitoring Board took place last year at HMP Humber.

    It found staff and prisoners felt insecure, with five deaths in custody during that period and low morale among staff.

    Inspectors also discovered that illegal substances and mobile phones were still getting into the prison, sometimes using drones. A new prison governor has been appointed since the inspection took place.

    Around 120 of the world’s top cyclists will take on a 172km stage, starting from Normanby Hall Country Park and finishing in the centre of Scunthorpe near Central Park.

  9. RSPCA says cat-in-bin 'horrendous'published at 17:28 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

    Animal welfare charity the RSPCA has called the actions of a 12-year-old girl putting, then leaving a cat in a bin as horrendous.

    They also confirmed that it's not clear what happened to the cat.

    It was no longer in the bin when the resident with CCTV cameras checked the footage and realised what had happened.

  10. Ferens Art Gallery will close to host Turner Prizepublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

    Hull City Council has tweeted the Ferens Art Gallery will close between the 5-11 September to prepare for hosting the Turner Prize.

    Lubaina Himid, who's artwork is pictured above, is one of the four artists shortlisted for this year's prize.

    It is the first time in two decades that artists over the age of 50 can be considered for the award.

    Their work will go on display from 26 September - 7 January.

    The East Riding of Yorkshire Council, external is looking to recruit new foster carers for young children.

    The council wants foster carers for children of all ages, including sibling groups.

    There is also a need for people who are willing to be a short break foster carer for a child with a disability.

    Two events are being held in September for those who might be interested and want more information.

  12. Mother takes child to police over cat-in-bin CCTV picturespublished at 16:11 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

    A mother has taken her young daughter to a police station after CCTV images of a girl dropping a black cat into a rubbish bin in Bransholme, Hull, emerged on social media.

    The RSPCA were also called to the incident

    The footage was filmed on 17 August and shows the girl looking inside the bin before dropping the cat inside. She then places a bag of rubbish on top of the bin.

    Since the footage appeared on social media the mother of a 12 year-old girl has been to a police station with the girl to say her daughter was the person in the video.

    Humberside Police say they will talk with the girl about the incident and decide on the best course of action.

    Hull's museums will welcome their one millionth visitor of 2017 on Wednesday.

    Ferens art gallery

    The busiest day on record was 21 January, which coincided with the opening of the Francis Bacon and Open Exhibition at the Ferens Art Gallery. Over 12,000 visits were recorded.

    The Ferens Art Gallery also attracted over 175,000 visits during the Skin Exhibition, which featured Spencer Tunick's Sea of Hull.

    People in Hull have until Thursday to decide whether or not they'd support litter enforcement in the area.

    Hull City Council says this may include on-the-spot fines for those caught dropping litter.

  16. Grimsby Town supporters' anger over Stevenage FC responsepublished at 14:42 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

    Grimsby Town supporter's group, the Mariners Trust, external, has published a tweet that Stevenage FC won't speak directly to them after they raised concerns about some of the security checks carried out towards female supporters.

    The Mariners Trust made the allegations about the treatment of some female fans after the two sides met on Saturday 19 August.

    At the time Stevenage FC said it implemented "a full, 100% compliant, searching regime" after fears of "the potential for anti-social and un-cooperative behaviour".

  17. East Yorkshire drag racing track 'facing closure'published at 14:24 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

    A drag racing track in East Yorkshire could close down unless the operators can raise £100,000.

    York Raceway at the former Seaton Ross Airfield needs the money to resurface the runway and provide new buildings.

    The drag racing venue has operated for the past 40 years and it's one of just three drag racing tracks in the country.

    The police say the owner of a camper van parked outside Hornsea's Inshore Rescue Boat compound at the weekend could face sanctions from the East Riding Council

    The police say the van could have delayed the deployment of the Hornsea rescue boat in an emergency as the boat crew may have been unable to park their cars.

    It's just two weeks since the East Riding council appealed for blue badge owners to park considerately and announced a clampdown on abuses of the blue badge system.

    Plans for Go Ape a new visitor attraction for North Lincolnshire, will be examined by the local council this week.

    The tree top adventure course, with zip wires and rope swings, could create around 30 jobs at Normanby Hall Country Park next year.

    There are already 30 similar high rope adventure sites around the country, with the nearest currently at Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire.

    A 77 year old woman's in a critical condition in hospital after a car collided with a tree in Pollington near Goole on Sunday afternoon.

    The woman, who was a passenger in the car is being treated in hospital in Leeds.

    The 80 year old male driver of the car has serious but not life threatening injuries.

    Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
