    Here's my top 10 choices for the weekend:

    The stories of people from North East Lincolnshire who have come through drug and alcohol addictions are going to be shared with others across the UK.

    Drug addiction

    A film submitted by the Foundations service, which is based in Grimsby, has been short-listed for a national award.

    It tells the story of some of their peer mentors, who have come through addictions themselves and now work to help others.

    It will now be shown to similar organisations around the country.

    The organisers of this year's Freedom Festival, external say they want a European feel to the city and have promised to, "keep the party going longer."

    The new Festival Tent in Queens Gardens will be transformed into a festival party for one and all after 10pm on both Friday and Saturday night.

    The Beats Bus is a mobile recording studio. Music workshops will be run by local Hip Hop favourites giving young people of the city a chance to express themselves

    Grimsby racing legend Guy Martin could break another world record in our area this weekend.

    The TT star first broke the world record for speed on a Wall of Death in March last year, clocking 78 mph.

    The Wall of Death will make an appearance at a Kirmington pub this weekend, with Guy tipped to make another world record bid.

    Train passengers are facing disruption this morning as Northern Rail , externalworkers go on strike.

    Members of the RMT union are taking part in industrial action over plans to cut the number of guards on trains.

    They are also planning on walking out on Monday. Northern runs services across East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire.

    The Freedom Festival gets under way in Hull today with more than 100,000 people expected to attend over the course of the weekend.

    Kofi Annan arrived at Humberside airport

    This year is the 10th anniversary of the Festival and features a keynote speech by former United Nations secretary general Kofi Annan, pictured above arriving at Humberside airport yesterday.

    It will also see music, comedy and other cultural activities take place throughout the city centre over the next three days.

    Plans for a new cruise terminal for Hull are progressing, according to the leader of Hull City Council.

    The preferred location for the £17m terminal is near The Deep at Sammy Point.

  17. Man airlifted to hospital after A166 smashpublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    A man's been airlifted to hospital following an accident on the A166 Garrowby Hill near Pocklington.

    Police were called to the incident involving two cars - a white Ford Kuga and a black Porsche near Bugthorpe at around 13:30 BST this afternoon.

    Two men were taken to hospital in York and another was taken via air ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary following the accident.

    Road closures are currently in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

    A man from Scunthorpe has been jailed for three and a half years after he attempted to smuggle a child and four people into the UK hidden in cabinets.

    Huzaifi Hasan Musa, 22, of Mary Street, Scunthorpe, was caught after the van he was driving was stopped by border force officers in France.

    A woman and child were found in one cabinet and three men in another. All five were Iraqi nationals.

    Musa claimed that he had been to visit his step-grandmother near Dunkirk though he couldn’t provide an address to officers and said that he had taken her furniture because he had intended to throw it all away.

    A number of roads will be closed in and around Hull city centre this afternoon for this weekend's Freedom Festival., external

    Festival organisers say the closures will allow people to walk around the site.

    The roads will be re-opened on Monday.
