    An interactive musical theatre production highlighting the crisis in Ukraine has kick-started the Freedom Festival in Hull.

    The festival is marking its 10th anniversary this weekend with hundreds of live music, theatre, poetry and street art performances set to take place across the city centre and on the marina.

    Ukrainian production Counting Sheep: A Guerrilla Folk Opera, which started on Wednesday, and a lecture by former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan are among the highlights.

    Others include a procession of giant giraffe statues in Queen Victoria Square by French theatre company Compagnie Off and a mass participatory dance show involving up to a 100 volunteers.

    Organiser Mikey Martins says he wants to create a continental feel to the festival.

    It follows Lilly in 1968 as she and her friends dare to speak out and take action to improve the safety conditions for their men at sea.

    Hull City of Council leader Stephen Brady has announced that Hull's year as City of Culture has exceeded all their expectations

    Mr Brady also told people watching that Hull has the fastest growing economy in Yorkshire and 500 jobs have been created in the city centre since the start of 2017.

    It's too easy for young people to order so-called laughing gas online, according to politicians in Pocklington.

    They've expressed concern after empty nitrous oxide gas canisters were found littering the town's skateboard park.

    They've advised parents to make sure their children are not getting gas canisters delivered in the post.

    A court ruled yesterday that the sale of nitrous oxide is legal, because of a loophole in the drugs laws.

    He will next face unseeded 18-year-old Canadian Denis Shapovalov, who upset French eighth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-4 6-4 7-6 (7-3).

    He is the last Briton standing after six were initially entered in the main draw.

    The fourth and final season of Hull's City of Culture year has just been announced.

    The final season is called "Tell the World" and organisers say it's about spreading the message about Hull and securing a lasting legacy for the city.

    The last four months will see the reopening of the Hull New Theatre and the Turner Prize come to the Ferens Art Gallery.
