    East Yorkshire tennis player Kyle Edmund has a chance of reaching the quarter-final of the Vienna Open when he plays on Thursday morning.

    On Tuesday he reached the last 16 of the competition after beating top Spanish player David Ferrer.

    Edmund's next opponent, Dennis Novak, is ranked 221 places behind him.

  2. Grimsby Kasbah dock buildings granted conservation statuspublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 25 October 2017

    An historical part of Grimsby has been granted conservation area status.

    The Kasbah, on the town's port, is the only surviving area of traditional smoke houses in England and has six listed buildings.

    It was developed in the 1870's and includes a network of warehouses and shops around the Grade I listed Dock Tower.

    North East Lincolnshire Council says the conservation area status will help the owners of the Kasbah access funding to conserve and develop the site.

    Plans to fine people who don't recycle their rubbish and overfill their bins have been approved in North East Lincolnshire.

    The council has backed the plans, which mean people will have to pay if they repeatedly put their rubbish in the wrong bin, but refused to say how much the fine would be.

    It has come in for criticism from some people in the area who say the bins provided by the council are too small and aren't fit for purpose.

    Earlier this year the council cut the weekly rubbish collections to a fortnightly service.

    The council says without some enforcement, a small minority of residents would refuse to recycle.

    Parts from 15 caravans have been stolen from a company in Hull.

    Humberside Police say boilers, sinks and copper piping were ripped from the caravans which were parked at Seaway Logistics on Stoneferry Road over the weekend.

    The Hull West and Hessle MP Emma Hardy has met with the Transport Secretary Chris Grayling to discuss delays to the upgrade of a main road through the city.

    The improvements to the A63 Castle Street have been put back until 2020, but many argue a footbridge is needed before then because of the high numbers of people crossing the busy dual carriageway.

    Emma Hardy says Mr Grayling told her he will meet with the head of Highways England on Monday to discuss the scheme.

    Managers at Castle Hill Hospital in East Yorkshire have warned that a shortage of nurses could lead to further ward closures in the future.

    A 20-bed surgical ward at the hospital has already been closed to free up staff to work at Hull Royal Infirmary.

    A dead sparrowhawk has been discovered in East Yorkshire and police say they believe it was shot.

    The bird of prey was found near to the quarry and Boyes Lane in Keyingham.

    Sparrowhawks are protected by law and it is a criminal offence to kill or harm them in any way.

    Humberside Police say they're treating it as a wildlife crime and are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

    Four years ago the Westcliff Estate in Scunthorpe was the focus of the Channel 4 programme Skint, and it didn't paint a pretty picture of life for people living there.

    In the years since, work has been going on to reduce anti-social behaviour and the team that runs the local community centre has been nominated for a national award.

    The group from the housing provider Ongo, has set up a residents' association, neighbourhood watch and a group called United Brumby, which celebrates diversity.

    They'll find out if they've won the Resolve Anti-social Behaviour Award next month.

    A man suffered serious injuries to his face when he was attacked by a gang in Grimsby.

    The 40-year-old victim was attacked by three men on New Haven Terrace at around midnight on Tuesday, 17 October.

    The man said the group started talking to him, before punching him to the ground and kicking him.

  18. ABP plans to expand Immingham port sitepublished at 10:40 British Summer Time 25 October 2017

    The company which owns and runs the Port of Immingham has revealed plans to expand the site.

    ABP has bought 50 acres of land near to the port, in the hope it can be developed and attract more business to the area.

    It says the site on Kings Road could house warehouses and industrial units to accommodate around 1,500 employees.

    Trade Unions representing workers at BAE Systems are back in London today to speak to MPs.

    Earlier this month the company announced plans to cut almost 2,000 jobs, with 400 of those expected to be cut at the site in Brough, East Yorkshire.

    People in Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Immingham who overfill their bins and don't recycle could face fines.

    North East Lincolnshire Council is discussing the idea at a meeting today.

    Earlier this year the authority agreed to replace weekly bin collections with a fortnightly service.

    If the plans are approved, the council says it would create a new team to raise awareness and help people cope with the changes.

    The fines would come into force in November.
