New research suggests one in four people has suicidal thoughts after leaving the armed forces.

The armed forces charity SSAFA has found that 41% of people who have left the Army have felt lonely and isolated, with many struggling to adapt to civilian life.

Hull veteran Mark Smith says he had to ask for help from the charity after he left the forces and developed an illness which left him partially housebound:

    Quote Message

It's a different way of life when you get out. When you're in the forces, the lads are just there. When you get out of the Army, you have to go out and actively pursue relationships."

It was to raise the issue of the collapse of the Wakefield City Academies Trust, which previously ran the school.

In September, the trust pulled out of running 21 schools in Yorkshire because it said it couldn't bring about rapid improvements required by education bosses.

The National Education Union is now calling for academies to be brought back under local authority control, but the government wants Goole Academy to be taken over by the Delta Academies Trust.
