East Midlands Ambulance Service, which serves northern Lincolnshire, has appealed for people to think twice before calling 999 this afternoon after a responding to a high number of calls.

They recommend contacting your pharmacy, theNHS Choices website, externalor calling the non-emergency 101 number before 999 if it's not an emergency.

Hull City boss Nigel Adkins is hopeful Jarrod Bowen could be back for tomorrow's match at Leeds United.

The forward came off the bench in Saturday's defeat at Cardiff.

Midfielders Markus Henriksen and Kevin Stewart are also set to return but striker Fraizer Campbell is still out.

There were more than 150 incidents where staff at hospitals in Grimsby, Goole and Scunthorpe were attacked last year, according to the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Trust.

That is why it says security staff have been given hi-tech body cameras, to try and deter anti-social behaviour.

The cameras will be worn by the staff who patrol the hospitals and car parks, and have been bought by the security firm which employs them.

A railway footbridge in Bridlington is being closed until further notice, following concerns about the safety of the structure.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council says a routine inspection of the bridge between Georgian Way and Bessingby Industrial Estate earlier this month found significant signs of wear and tear with the structure of the bridge.

The authority says it will be shut from Monday 8 January until further notice.

There are plans to build a new bridge in its place.

Beverley has been shortlisted in the Coach Friendly Destination category at the British Coach Tourism Awards for the third year running.

The town will be up against Bournemouth, Burnham-on-Sea, Devon, Guildford, Otley and Wells at the awards ceremony in March.

Councillor Richard Burton, cabinet portfolio holder for leisure, tourism and culture at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

Police say they are trying to trace 22-year-old Benjamin Lawson from Grimsby.

Mr Lawson was on bail after being arrested on suspicion of assault. He did not meet his bail obligations.

He was arrested by Nottinghamshire Police in Warsop in July.

It's thought he could be in the Grimsby area, but has links to Warsop, Mansfield, Sheffield and Cleethorpes.

It's a pretty grey and cloudy day for most of us, with the odd spot of rain on higher ground.

Feeling relatively mild too with light winds.

A grandma and her teenage granddaughter were subject to lewd sexual comments on board a train filled with Grimsby Town football fans at the weekend, according to British Transport Police.

Officers say the 60-year-old and 15-year-old were on the train from Lincoln to Nottingham on Saturday, when they were subjected to unwanted touching and had beer cans thrown at them when they didn't respond.

British Transport Police are appealing for witnesses and say they will do everything to find those responsible.

A main road in the centre of Bridlington will reopen over the Christmas period, it's been confirmed.

Road works are currently being carried out between Bridge Street and Springfield Avenue as part of multi-million pound plans by East Riding of Yorkshire Council to improve traffic in the town centre.

The authority says the road will be open in one direction from Christmas Eve until Monday 8 January to improve access over the festive period.

A 70-year-old woman was punched in the face by a man who tried to force his way into her house in Hull yesterday.

Officers say the man tried to force his way in to the woman's home on Derby Street at about 06:00 on Thursday morning.

When the woman blocked his way, he punched her in the face, leaving her with injuries to her cheeks and nose.

The woman, who was caring for two young children at the time, was taken to hospital for checks.

Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact police.

Hull City Council has welcomed the announcement of £42m worth of government funding to improve flood defences on the Humber.

The money will be used to inspect and improve defences in and around Hull, which the Environment Agency says will help protect 113,000 properties.

A body found in Lincolnshire this week is that of a teenager who went missing following a night out in Cleethorpes last week, police have confirmed.

Liam Toner, 19, was reported missing on Friday 15 December and a body was found the following day in Holton-le-Clay.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out and the police say there are no suspicious circumstances around his death.

They say they are continuing to work closely with Humberside Police to establish the circumstances that led to Mr Toner's death.

Humberside Police are preparing for what's become known as "Mad Friday" - one of the busiest nights of the year for the emergency services.

Officers will be working alongside street marshalls to help make sure people stay safe as they enjoy a night out before Christmas.

The Yorkshire Ambulance Service is also encouraging people to drink responsibly.

Security staff at hospitals in Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Goole hospitals have been given body cameras in a bid to help reduce assaults on staff.

The cameras have been bought by ISS UK Healthcare, which employs the staff who patrol the hospitals and car parks.

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLaG) says it hopes the devices will deter anti-social behaviour over the Christmas period.

Matthew Overton, local security management specialist for NLaG, says incidents of verbal or physical abuse against staff "will not be tolerated":

A woman in her 30s died in a house fire in Grimsby yesterday, police have confirmed.

The fire started in the living room of a house on Baroness Road at about 15:30 on Thursday.

Police say they're not treating the blaze as suspicious.
