  1. 120 properties without power in East Riding and Grimsbypublished at 14:59 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2017

    Around 120 properties are without power near Hessle, Cottingham and Grimsby.

    Northern Powergrid say it's due to an unexpected problem with the electricity cables, external which serve each area.

    They estimate that the power will be restored at properties near Hessle around 16:00, properties in Grimsby around 17:45 and Cottingham around 20:00.

  2. Hull A63 to be closed in both directionspublished at 14:44 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2017

    The A63 is closing in both directions between South Cave and Brough following damage caused to two overhead bridges.

    Dale Road in Elloughton, which is the road on the bridge across the A63, is also going to be closed along with a footbridge.

    Humberside Police say it's a safety precaution so that damage to the bridges can be assessed. They advise motorists to avoid the area.

  4. Thousands expected at Flamborough Fire Festivalpublished at 14:16 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2017

    The organisers of this year's Flamborough Fire Festival say they expect thousands to turn up for the event on New Year's Eve.

    It will be the third year the Viking-themed festival has taken place in the East Coast village.

    The festival sees a recreation Viking longboat pulled through the village.

    Other entertainment is expected to include burning straw bales which are swung through the air.

  5. Reaction to Kingswood development appeal rejectionpublished at 13:41 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2017

    As we told you a short while ago, a £35m plan to extend a retail park on the outskirts of Hull has been rejected.

    Hull City Council had argued the development at Kingswood would negatively impact the city centre and there had been strong opposition to the plans from businesses in the centre - today a Planning Inspectorate found in their favour.

    Plans to expand a retail park on the outskirts of Hull have been rejected.

    Kier Group wanted to invest £32m to build ten new units at the Kingswood development but had two applications thrown out.

    Today the Planning Inspectorate backed the decision by Hull City Council, who said it would take footfall away from the city centre.

    Thousands of young people in the Yorkshire and Humber region asked councils for help last year because they had no home, it's emerged.

    Figures obtained by the youth charity Centrepoint show nearly 3,000 16 to 25-year-olds approached their local council because they were homeless or at risk of homelessness.

    Traffic which has been stuck on the westbound carriageway on the A180 near Ulceby is getting moving again.

    Earlier today, there was a crash on the road involving several heavy goods vehicles and which saw three people suffer minor injuries.

    Drivers closest to the crash are starting to be moved on again after being stuck for about three hours.

    The westbound carriageway still remains closed and drivers are being advised to avoid the area.

    There were no serious injuries after a crash on the A180 near Immingham earlier today, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed.

    Several heavy goods vehicles were involved and the police say three people suffered minor injuries.

    Drivers are still being advised to avoid the area, though, as the road is still closed westbound.

    Meanwhile, only one carriageway is currently open eastbound on the road near Ulceby:

    Businesses in Hull have told the BBC that the City of Culture 2017 title has made companies more willing to invest in the area.

    Some say they've seen a direct boost from the culture title, with city centre hotels saying there's been a 9% rise in occupancy.

    A 56-year-old man remains in custody on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in an East Yorkshire village earlier this week.

    Police were called to a house on Main Street, Buckton, near Bempton, at about 19:50 on Tuesday where a 52-year-old woman had died.

    Officers say they're still trying to establish the circumstances of her death and they say they now want to reassure the public over the incident:

    Police are trying to get drivers to use a different route after several heavy vehicles were involved in a crash on the A180 near Ulceby.

  17. Long delays expected on the A180 at Ulcebypublished at 09:09 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2017

    Humberside Police says a tractor has jack-knifed and gone into the central reservation on the A180 near Ulceby.

    Around three or four heavy goods vehicles are also involved.

    There have been three minor injuries reported so far and the westbound carriageway is completely closed and the eastbound is at least partially closed where the A180 goes under the B1211.

    The police, ambulance and fire crews are at the scene.

    Police say there's a lot of standing traffic which they're going to try and turn around and diversions will be in place shortly.

    Hull City Council have been clearing the area by the former BHS building in the city centre.

    Yesterday we told you about how Hull Homeless And Rootless Project (HARP) had criticised members of the public for giving food, drink, money and blankets to rough-sleepers at the site.

    Today the homelessness charity Emmaus took some rough sleepers away and council workers moved in to clear the area.

    The council say they'll continue to clear the area every day.

  19. Hull A&E under 'unnecessary pressure'published at 08:28 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2017

    Unnecessary pressure is being added on A&E departments in our area by people who turn up with things like minor cuts, bruises and even hangovers.

    That's according to hospital bosses in Hull and East Yorkshire who are urging people to stay away unless it's a genuine emergency.
