The Conservative MP for York Outer, Julian Sturdy, claims it would ease congestion in York city centre and open up economic development and housing opportunities.

The call comes after the government announced a new rail strategy which included reopening some lines.

The last train on the York to Beverley line ran on the evening of November 27, 1965.

  7. Limited powers make moving homeless difficult - Councilpublished at 17:19 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December 2017

The man in charge of housing at Hull City Council has admitted the authority has limited powers to move on rough sleepers from outside the former BHS store in the city centre.

    Dave Richmond

The comments, by Dave Richmond (pictured), come after a homeless charity in Hull slammed members of the public who gave the rough sleepers there food, clothes and money.

Mr Richmond says: "The powers are not very strong and in some instances they're not that productive.

"If you take someone to court, they'll end up with a fine. If you're a rough sleeper, ending up with a fine isn't going to be that productive," he adds.

    Quote Message

We can, with the help of the police, secure criminal behaviour orders... But we want to be supportive where we can. That would not be be our first tack."

  16. Your views on handouts to Hull city centre homelesspublished at 15:00 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December 2017

You've been getting in touch with your views after Hull Homeless and Rootless Project (HARP) criticised local residents for giving food, clothes and money to rough sleepers outside Hull's former BHS building.

HARP has said people living rough in the city are "choosing to live like this" as they can make "small fortunes" from being given money by passers-by.

Here's what you've been telling BBC Radio Humberside via Twitter:

    Quote Message

Went by yesterday - what a mess it was. Thought it was an entry in the Turner prize, must make people of Hull ashamed."

    Ian Blee

    Quote Message

I find it disturbing that we live in a society where we are more concerned about a place looking neat and tidy than people's welfare."

    Alex Hutchinson

    Quote Message

I believe the council are able to provide everything for these people: clothes, beds, shelter. Unfortunately they choose not to take it. The only solution for this place is to remove the canopy. Won't cure the problem but will remove them from city centre."

  17. City of Culture verdict: Title has brought pride to Hullpublished at 14:38 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December 2017

The man in charge of Hull's year as City of Culture says the boost to the city's pride is more important than the one it's given its finances.

    Martin Green

Visitors have brought at least £60m into Hull, according to Hull 2017 officials, and the city has been promised an extra £9m from Arts Council England.

But Director of Hull 2017, Martin Green (pictured), says the biggest achievement can't be measured:

    Quote Message

It's the thing which is not quantifiable which is about pride and confidence. Yes, we can point to bricks and mortar, we can point to the new venue the council put in, we can point to all these statistics. But, actually, it's about the heads up, shoulders back, my city pride that this year has produced."

Everybody's in shock because nothing ever happens around Bempton and Buckton and you never see a police car. So it's quite strange and everyone's just in shock"
