There is a wide range of support available for people with a learning disability, but half the battle can be signposting them to the right care and support. People with learning disabilities are 58 times more likely to die before the age of 50, often because of health conditions that could have been avoided."

  6. Hornsea residents not ready to lose Minor Injury Unitpublished at 10:32 Greenwich Mean Time 9 February 2018

People in Hornsea aren't being given enough notice about the closure of the town's Minor Injury Unit, it's being claimed.

    Hornsea Cottage Hospital

Despite campaigns to save the unit, NHS bosses say it is expected to shut by the end of next month.

The closure would see patients travelling to urgent care centres at Beverley, Bridlington and Goole, or booking an appointment for "low level minor injuries" at units in Driffield or Withernsea.

East Riding of Yorkshire councillor Barbara Jefferson has raised concerns that medical services won't be ready to cope with the closure:

    Quote Message

They haven't shown us yet that they can actually cope in the urgent care centres. I'm sure they will tell us they can, but I do like see to things and speak to people and I can tell you now there are going to be problems here for nursing care."
