    A woman has been arrested in connection with the theft of cash from an 82-year-old woman at a cash machine in Hull.

    The incident happened on Princes Avenue yesterday morning.

    Police said the woman had just withdrawn some money when the suspect grabbed her wrist, taking the cash and her bank card.

    A former teacher from Hornsea has been struck off for swearing and making rude gestures at students.

    39-year-old Elizabeth Woods was found to have acted unprofessionally when she was a teacher at Hornsea School and Language College in 2016.

    A disciplinary panel, external found she had used inappropriate language, swore at pupils and made rude hand signals

    The panel recommended she should be banned from teaching indefinitely.

    Ms Wood can apply to have the order lifted in four years.

    This is the new ward for infectious diseases at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham.

    It's the only ward in the area capable of assessing people with deadly infections like ebola and yellow fever.

    It cost £1.63m and will also treat patients with highly contagious viruses and drug-resistant infections.

    The B1207 is currently closed at Appleby in North Lincolnshire due to a burst water main.

    In addition, the road through nearby Risby was already shut for long-term roadworks and this was the diversion route.

    Roads in the area are now having to accommodate heavy commuter traffic and drivers are being warned to expect delays.

    A group of people in Grimsby are calling for people to stop vandalising Weelsby Woods.

    The comments come after a series of arson attacks on trees in the area.

    Member of the Friends of Weelsby Woods community group have teamed up with Humberside Police to ask members of the public to start respecting the woodland.

    More than 1,000 high street shops have closed in the Yorkshire and the Humber region in the last three years, new figures show.

    The statistics, compiled by accountancy firm Price Waterhouse Cooper and the Local Data Company, show the region has suffered the largest decline of anywhere outside of London.

    Sheffield was the worst affected area in Yorkshire and the Humber, with Hull, and Barnsley also seeing a drop.

    Huddersfield has also been hit hard, according to the report, but David Whittle, from Peter's department store in the town, says despite the new findings there is still hope for the future:

    The Beverley Folk Festival could be brought back next year, it's emerged.

    Last month, the organisers cancelled the 2018 event because of a loss of their "primary source of funding" and said they would be unable to pay for either the infrastructure or performers.

    The festival had been running for 35 years.

    Now, an East Yorkshire events company, Dazzling Events, wants to take it on and says it has plans for the festival's future.

  13. Hull gets ready to be Absolutely Culturedpublished at 08:00

    The company which has taken over from Hull 2017, which ran last year's City of Culture events, has revealed the events it's planned for 2018.

    The new company, called Absolutely Cultured, will stage a two-mile domino run in August, weaving in and out of buildings across the city.

    Also, the success of last year's Made in Hull has inspired a winter projection project.

    The company says it will put on two large-scale events each year.

    A pensioner's been convicted at Leeds Crown Court of raping two children in Kenya.

    Keith Morris, who's 72 and from Hull, was found guilty of 13 charges, after the Crown Prosecution Service arranged for one of his victims to give evidence from Africa via video-link.

    The court heard how, over 20 years, Morris befriended the families of his victims in a remote village and provided them with money and gifts - as a cover for his sexual offending.

    He'll be sentenced in July.

  16. Freeport status for the Humber to be discussedpublished at 17:50 British Summer Time 22 May 2018

    The government's agreed to hold talks over the possibility of "freeport status" being granted on the Humber.

    The move would give tax exemptions to goods coming through ports on the river.

    The Conservative MP for Cleethorpes, Martin Vickers, told the Commons it would be a boost for the region once Britain leaves the European Union.

    The Chancellor Philip Hammond said he would send his deputy Liz Truss to meet MPs from the area.

    The nationwide network, which now has more than 500 members, was first started by Gill Hodgson near Market Weighton.

    And Mark Gregory from West Cowick put together the 'Welcome to Yorkshire' garden inspired by the Yorkshire Dales, which also won a gold medal.

  18. Haskins: M&S struggle to keep uppublished at 17:16 British Summer Time 22 May 2018

    The chair of the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership says he is not entirely surprised by Marks & Spencer plans to close more than 100 shops in the UK by 2022.

    The figure includes 21 stores that have already shut, including one in Bridlington and 14 newly identified for closure.

    Marks & Spencer says it hopes to make at least a third of sales online but Lord Haskins says so far the company has struggled to keep up with progress.

  19. Snaith couple found guilty of contempt of courtpublished at 16:47 British Summer Time 22 May 2018

    A couple from Snaith have been given a suspended prison sentence after ignoring an order to stop building.

    Christopher and Nancy Dean of Pontefract Road, continued construction work on land known as The Sandpit on Pontefract Road without planning permission and after an injunction order was served to restrain the development which was considered harmful.

    They were found guilty of four counts of contempt of court and were both given a prison sentence of four weeks for each of the four counts, suspended for a year.

    They were also ordered to pay the council's full costs of more than £4,300.
