The Local Democracy Reporting Service says plans have been submitted to North Lincolnshire Council by VPI Immingham for the new 49.9 megawatt gas-fired station which they say will help the country's move towards renewable energy.

If given approval the plant would be built at Energy Park A at the site on Rosper Road and take around 12 to 18 months to construct, creating 100 jobs in the process.

VPI say the plant would most likely be used at periods of low electricity supply or high demand in order to support the National Grid.

    Quote Message

VPI Immingham has been a critical part of the region's industrial infrastructure for over a decade. The new plant will add to this; providing essential services and support to National Grid and underpinning the move to more renewable energy."

The emergency services, including the RNLI, were called to the seafront to help the man who was airlifted to hospital.

Matt McNally from the Cleethorpes lifeboat station says jumping into the sea from a height when you don't know how deep the water is not a risk worth taking.

    Quote Message

The water can look really attractive, especially on a hot summers day when you want to cool down. But jumping into water of any sort from height, when you don't know how deep it is or what lies underneath the surface, can be a really dangerous thing to do."

An environmental campaign group claims a pilot project to capture and store carbon dioxide from Drax Power Station is "a smokescreen".

Drax says the £400,000 project will look into whether gases from burning wood pellets at the power station can be stopped from entering the atmosphere.

It's been burning the pellets, known as biomass, since 2013.

The pellets are shipped to Drax after being made from trees in the southern United States.

But Simon Bowen, from Friends Of The Earth, says the impact of importing biomass is "devastating":

Passengers in Yorkshire have reported delays and cancellations as rail routes covered by Northern saw train times and stopping patterns change from Sunday.

The operator apologised after it cancelled dozens of trains hours after its new timetable began on Sunday.

An Arriva Rail North Ltd spokesman said: "This is a significant operational challenge, and given the late nature of the planning for this, we do expect some localised service disruption, which could happen at very short notice while the new timetable beds in."

The RMT said the move should "spell the end of the privatised chaos on Britain's railways".
