    A man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after a suspected stabbing in a supermarket car park.

    Andrew Mayes, 36, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody by Grimsby magistrates.

    He is due to appear at Hull Crown Court next month.

    He's also charged with possessing a knife in a public place.

    Aunt Bessie's will remain in Hull despite being sold to Birds Eye owner Nomad Foods in a £210m deal.

    Nomad Foods, which also owns Findus and Goodfella's, has agreed to buy the company from Yorkshire-based group William Jackson.

    The deal, which is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2018, is set to include its factory in Hull.

    Nomad Foods said that the deal would help it get a foothold in the roast dinner market.

    Young drivers from around Goole have been some of first in the country to drive on a motorway before passing their test.

    The group and their instructors drove along the M62 motorway just after midnight, minutes after the change became legal.

    Telecoms company KCOM has apologised for an internet outage in part of Hull on Sunday.

    People in parts of north Hull and Bransholme were left with no internet access for more than an hour.

    KCOM is investigating the cause, but says it appears to be the result of a software failure.

    The situation faced by passengers using Northern rail services is "totally unacceptable", Downing Street has said.

    Rail passengers are still facing cancellations despite changes to combat major disruption caused by new timetables introduced last month.

    Northern has brought in a temporary timetable that removes 165 train services a day until 29 July.

    However, more than 100 trains were still cancelled or severely delayed.

    An iconic painting by Paul Cezanne has gone on display at the Ferens Gallery in Hull for the first time.

    The Card Players has been loaned to the gallery by the Cortauld Gallery in London.

    Cezanne’s famous series of paintings of peasant card players, dating from the 1890s, have long been considered to be among his most powerful works and this canvas is one of the acknowledged highlights of the Courtauld’s holdings.

    The Ferens was recently shortlised for the Art Fund's Museum of the Year award, external, and last year the gallery hosted Spencer Tunnick's Sea of Hull and the Turner Prize.

  15. 'Months' to get back to normal - Northern rail bosspublished at 13:07 British Summer Time 4 June 2018

    The managing director of rail operator Northern says it could take months for train services to get back to normal.

    The company has introduced an emergency timetable today after hundreds of delays and cancellations over the last two weeks.

    Managing director David Brown has also apologised for the "very poor start" admitting the company has been cancelling "far too many trains" and "inconveniencing far too many people".

    Northern says it is now trying to stabilise things.:

    Hull-based frozen food manufacturer Aunt Bessie's is being sold in a deal worth approximately £210m.

    UK-based Nomad Foods has agreed to buy the company, including its factory in Hull, from William Jackson & Son.

    Aunt Bessie's is best known for its frozen Yorkshire puddings and potato products.

    The firm's factory on Freightliner Road employs about 400 people and produces about 500 million frozen Yorkshire Puddings every year.

    A spokesman for Nomad said all Aunt Bessie's employees would join the company through the acquisition.

    All traffic heading to the M1 links from junction one on the M18 has been stopped after an accident earlier this morning.

    The closure is to help police investigate.

    Drivers are advised to join the M1 Southbound and turn at Junction 31 to return onto the M1 Northbound.

    A parish council has stepped in to try and restore a bus service after the village lost its' regular connection.

    East Yorkshire Motor Services (EYMS) stopped running its 220 service from Aldbrough to Hull last month saying it wasn't profitable.

    The move has left villagers isolated and pensioners struggling to travel to Hull or Beverley to access essential services.

    Aldbrough Parish Council said it will fund a limited service on a five-week trial.

    An East Yorkshire teenager suffered minor injuries after being assaulted and having his bike stolen.

    The attacker is said to be in his late 30s or early 40s and around 6ft tall.

    It happened in the early hours of Sunday 6 May on Thorne Road in Thorngumbald.

    The boy, who was with another teenager, suffered minor injuries.
