    A man has appeared before Hull Magistrates' Court charged with the murder of a Lithuanian national in Hull.

    Rolandas Poskus, 52, was found dead on Dane Park Road on Friday.

    Mantas Pundzius, 23, of Thornwick Close, Hull, is due to appear before Hull Crown Court on Friday.

    Police say another man remains in custody in connection with the incident, while two women who were also arrested have been released.

  2. MP urges minister to listen over 'safe standing'published at 14:19 British Summer Time 21 June 2018

    The Labour MP for Scunthorpe has urged the Sports Minister Tracey Crouch to listen to the town's football fans over "safe standing" at grounds.

    At present, stadiums in the top two divisions are "all-seater" as a result of safety concerns following the Hillsborough disaster.

    But supporters groups are pressing for what's called "safe standing" to be introduced in "rail seats" which can be locked in an upright position (pictured).

    The Sports Minister says the government will make a decision "in due course" whether to allow some football fans to stand at Premier League and Championship games.

    The government is giving £20m to support the culture, heritage and creative industries across England after seeing the success of Hull's City of Culture year.

    The Cultural Development Fund is intended to help areas rather than fund specific projects.

    The Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage Michael Ellis said Hull City of Culture is a prime example of how profitable investment in the arts and culture can be for an area.

    People travelling on Northern trains are facing another day of strike action.

    Northern, which runs services in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, says it will run as many services as possible.

    There isn't enough competition in the broadband market in Hull, according to the regulator Ofcom.

    Ofcom has published a draft statement on their wholesale broadband access market review, external.

    It said competition in the city "lags significantly behind the rest of the UK".

    The main supplier is KCOM, but the review concludes their "prices are often higher than BT,"

    It did add that "small alternative providers are expanding."

    Ofcom have recommended KCOM provide network access on a reasonable request and do not discriminate unduly.

    A Grimsby woman has created a unique way to help people understand what it's like to live with a stammer.

    Wendy Ronaldson (pictured) had kept her stammer hidden for 40 years, but a degree in art has helped give her the confidence to discuss her condition in public.

    She uses a self-made piece of interactive art (pictured below) which involves getting letters out of a glass jar with wooden sticks to then form a word.

    Hornsea Museum has been given almost £8,000 of funding to tell the story of the Royal Navy Air Service base which was once located on the Mere.

    The project, which will mark the centenary of the end of World War One, will focus on bringing to life what the base used to look like and the people who served there.

    The Mere was a safe launch for sea planes and the sheltered waters offered a prime site close to the North Sea.

    Police have charged a man with the murder of Rolandas Poskus whose body was found on Dane Park Road in Hull last Friday.

    Mantas Pundzius, 23, of Thornwick Close in Hull, will appear before the city's magistrates later today.

    Three other people have been arrested in connection with the death of Mr Poskus.

    A 28-year-old man was detained on Tuesday and remains in custody, Humberside Police said.

    A 42-year-old woman has been released on conditional bail, while an 18-year-old woman has been unconditionally released without charge.

    Police are trying to locate two potential witnesses - a woman with a shopping bag and a man with a dog who were seen in the area at 01:30.

    Business owners have told the BBC they've noticed more addicts begging and intimidating shoppers.

    Humberside Police say the people causing anti-social behaviour on Newland Avenue are different to the ones in the the city centre, but they are committed to dealing with problem.

    A charity has criticised the RNLI for insisting a volunteer at Bridlington lifeboat station retires.

    Paul Staveley, 70, who carried out cleaning duties at Bridlington RNLI, has been told he can no longer help with the operational side of the lifeboat station due to his age.

    Age UK says what paid staff and volunteers are allowed to do should be based on their ability, not their age.

    Steps are being taken to improve air quality in Scunthorpe after the town was named the most polluted in the UK.

    North Lincolnshire Council says it's working with the town's big employers to reduce industrial pollution.

    As part of Clean Air Day it's also asking residents to help cut emissions from their cars and homes.

    A lifelong Hull FC supporter has been given the surprise of his life today when the Rugby League Challenge Cup arrived at his home.

    Eric Gibbons, from Cottingham, has only recently returned home after a long spell in hospital and a care home, following a serious stroke.

    The 83-year-old has been a Black and Whites fan for more than 70 years.

    When the club heard about Eric's return home they sent ex-Hull FC favourite Iafeta Paleaaesina along with the Challenge Cup to meet him.

    Hull FC won the cup in 2016 and 2017, but won't win it this year as they lost to St Helens.

    So, before it goes back, they took the cup along for Eric to see.

    His son, a journalist at BBC Yorkshire, says Mr Gibbons was "very surprised and thrilled".
