    Giant sand sculptures of Beverley's landmarks and depicting local history are taking shape in the town.

    Beverley-born artist Paul Hoggard, along with his wife Remy, are currently recreating Beverley Minster.

    Police are continuing to question a man and two women in connection with a man's murder in Hull.

    The body of 52-year-old Rolandas Poskus was discovered on Dane Park Road in the early hours of 15 June.

    Searches are now being carried out at three properties in Hull, on Arthur Street, Gordon Street and The Boulevard.

    Police cordons remain in place and extra officers are patrolling the area.

    Officers say they believe this was an isolated incident and don't believe there is a wider risk to the public.

    They're appealing for anyone with any information to contact them.

    It might be a little early to start thinking about buying your Christmas cards, but Hull's History Centre is appealing for people with old Christmas cards to come forward.

    Staff are planning to put on an exhibition this winter and are looking for examples of traditional Christmas cards like the one above.

    Hull FC's Scott Taylor (pictured) has joined England debutant Jake Connor in being named in the 17-man squad to face New Zealand in Denver on Saturday.

    Connor's inclusion was announced last night and Taylor's involvement confirmed this morning when coach Wayne Bennett revealed his team for the game.

    Connor (pictured below) says he's excited about the prospect of making his England debut at the home of the Denver Broncos.

    A Bridlington man who has volunteered at the town's lifeboat station for 48 years has been told he needs to retire, because he's reached the age of 70.

    Paul Staveley volunteered as a lifeboatman until the age of 55 and since then has helped to clean and tidy the lifeboat station.

    But the RNLI says it has set a retirement age for all operational roles to ensure volunteers are able to operate safely and effectively.

    There's been an arrest in Scunthorpe after a video appeared online showing a fight between a man and security guards at a shop.

    A number of people witnessed the incident at about noon yesterday on the High Street outside Primark.

    Police say it was an isolated incident and local community policing teams are in the town centre to reassure the public.

    The company says it's taking the issue very seriously and is working with its security contractors to investigate what happened.

    Officers are appealing for information and have asked the person who filmed the incident to come forward.

  10. 'We shouldn't rent out homes not fit to live in' - Hull MPpublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 20 June 2018

    The Hull West and Hessle Labour MP is calling for stricter rules for private landlords.

    Emma Hardy has raised her concerns in the Commons, saying 22,000 homes owned by private landlords in the city have the worst health and safety rating possible.

    She says it will cost £23.5m to fix the problem and wants ministers to introduce licences for landlords to combat the problem.

    Ms Hardy wants the cost of inspecting private rental properties to be covered by private landlords and not by local councils, as is now the case.

    Two ducks and eight ducklings have been killed in Nafferton, near Driffield.

    It's thought CCTV may have captured the incident which happened at about 03:00 on Friday 15 June.

    Trained wildlife and rural crime officers are investigating the incident which happened on Coppergate.

    Humberside Police say: "This is clearly a very distressing incident for the community and we will seek to find those responsible."

    Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact police.

    A woman from Hull has found a coin in her attic which could be worth up to £100,000.

    Valuers believe the coin could date back to 1644, during the reign of Charles I, and is one of only 100 ever made.

    It's expected to be auctioned in either London, New York or Hong Kong.

    Young people are being urged to check they've had both doses of the MMR vaccine before going on holiday to Europe where there are large outbreaks of measles.

    Public health officials say there are significant numbers of teenagers and young adults who're at risk, even at home.

    Symptoms include a runny nose, sneezing and coughing, sore red eyes, a high temperature and, after a few days, a red-brown blotchy rash.

    A total of 53 cases were reported in Yorkshire and the Humber between January and the end of May.

    Hull FC's Jake Connor will earn his first England cap on Saturday after his place in the side to face New Zealand in the United States was confirmed last night.

    Club team-mate Scott Taylor has also been named in the England team that will face New Zealand in Denver on Saturday.

    England's matchday squad includes 12 players from the from the 6-0 defeat by Australia in the World Cup final last December.

    The one-off Test in the United States kicks off at 21:10.

    Hull's second children's literature festival - the Big Malarkey Festival, external - starts today.

    This year they have received support from the Arts Council, and festival director Ellen Bianchini said it's all down to last year's success.

    Today more than 400 children from around 45 schools in the city will also vote on the City's first Children's Book award.

    There are concerns the East Riding's four nursery schools could close.

    They are facing big budget cuts because of a new funding formula brought in by the government last year, the council said.

    Three of the schools are rated as "outstanding" by Ofsted.

    Councillors will be asked today to write to the Department for Education for clarification on their future funding and sustainability.

    Around 80 tonnes of sand has been dumped in Beverley for the town's Sculpture Trail - highlights include a recreation of Beverley Minster:

    Sculptors Paul and Remy Hoggard are recreating the Minster outside the Flemingate Shopping centre.

    The finished artwork will be about three metres high.

    Paul, who is originally from Beverley, travels the world with his wife Remy creating sand art sculptures like the ones below:

    In total there will be 12 sand sculptures located around the town showing "Beverley through the ages".

    People living in shared housing in Hull could soon have more protection.

    There are 4,500 houses of multiple occupancy (HMO) in the city.

    New regulations could be brought in by Hull City Council to improve living conditions and provide extra support for tenants.

    The council also wants to put restrictions on the number of homes allowed to be converted to HMOs in areas which consist mainly of family homes.
