    The emergency services in East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire are reminding people who make hoax calls of the dangers they could be putting other people in.

    The warning comes after reports of a serious incident in the early hours of Monday morning.

    Police, three fire engines and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service were all called to the scene - which turned out to have been a hoax.

    The Yorkshire Ambulance Service says these types of calls could be deadly for people who genuinely need urgent help.

    A man had to be rescued after he got stuck on top of the statue in Hull's Queen Victoria Square last night.

    The fire service were called out at about 03:00 this morning and used a 13.5m ladder to bring the man down safely.

    The man was taken into police custody.

    They're getting the opportunity to work with Microsoft this summer to make "mixed reality" work in everyday life.

    Mixed reality is a headset which merges real and virtual worlds - it can be used to train people and give them extra skills.

    It also allows businesses to test out new products and designs before committing to purchasing them.

    It's already being recognised by companies such as Audi and Centrica.

  5. Guards dispute sparks fresh rail strikepublished at 08:00 British Summer Time 19 June 2018

    There's three more days of strike action on Northern trains this week, starting today.

    RMT union members have walked out for 24-hours in the long-running dispute over the role of guards on trains.

    Northern, which operates trains in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, says it will run as many services as possible during peak times.

    There will be further strike action on Thursday and Saturday.

    Hull's Freedom Festival is to stage another special event this year, it's emerged.

    Last year saw more than 2,000 people share a free gastronomic feast in Hull's Queens Gardens.

    Organisers are hoping to replicate those scenes again this year and they're appealing for volunteers to help:

  9. RMT members at Northern rail to stage 24-hour strikepublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 18 June 2018

    Members of the RMT union are due to hold another strike tomorrow in a continuing row with rail operator Northern about driver-only trains.

    The trade union is calling for last minute talks to try and resolve issues between the two parties.

    The union argues passenger safety would be put at risk by getting rid of guards and extending driver-only services.

    Tomorrow's planned strike comes at a time when Northern is facing mounting pressure over disruption caused by implementing a new timetable.

    Northern says it's committed to delivering a modern service for customers.

    Humberside Police have release a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to about a stolen bank card.

    The card was stolen from a vehicle on Stirling Street in Hull on 8 June and was then used in a number of stores to purchase items.

    Anyone who can identify this man is being asked to get in touch with police.

    Copies of a limited edition children's book are being delivered to every house in Hull.

  12. On track: Scunthorpe tube trains steel contract renewedpublished at 15:01 British Summer Time 18 June 2018

    Tube trains in London will continue to run on rails made in Scunthorpe after British Steel agreed a new deal.

    Transport for London signed a contract with the steel makers back in 2012.

    The new deal will mean the Scunthorpe site will continue to supply track for the next two years.

    So far, more than 40,000 tonnes of steel has been used in the project.

  14. Chennai Six man from Hull takes on endurance challengepublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 18 June 2018

    One of the so-called Chennai Six, jailed in India for four years on weapons charges, is running 18 marathons in 18 days for charity.

    Ray Tindall, originally from Hull, but now living in Chester, said his inspiration was running thousands of miles around a prison track.

    The former soldier said while in custody he ran a total of 7,652 miles around an 800m circuit.

    He said he wanted to use the experience to do something positive.

    Mr Tindall, along with five other British men, was imprisoned in 2013 after Indian officials found weapons and ammunition on a ship.

    The six, who were working as guards on the anti-piracy vessel, were released in November following an appeal.

    A violent man who killed another man in a Hull hostel after he was "robbed" of his last can of beer has been found guilty of murder.

    Colin Cadamartriea, 64, stabbed 31-year-old Jarrad Marsh, at the property on Albert Avenue on 20 January.

    Hull Crown Court heard he killed his fellow hostel resident in a revenge attack after Mr Marsh had stolen his money and beer.

    Cadamartriea, who had denied murder, is due to be sentenced on 30 July.

    A series of cycle maps which can be downloaded onto people's smart phones and navigation devices have been launched by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

    The include information about facilities and tourist attractions.

    Police in Hull are appealing for witnesses after a woman was sexually assaulted by a man who also stole her phone.

    It happened while the woman was walking with friends on Anlanby Road, just after 03:10 yesterday morning.

    The suspect's described as mixed race, in his 30s and with dark hair.

    He wore a denim jacket, dark jumper and jeans and made his way down Midland Street following the assault.

    Anyone with information about the attack is being asked to contact police.
