    Police investigating the murder of a man in Hull last week say they're looking for two people they believe might have vital information.

    The body of 52 year-old Lithuanian national Rolandas Poskus was discovered on Dane Park Road in the early hours of Friday 15 June.

    The woman, who was walking down Arthur Street in the direction of Walliker Street at about 01:30, is described as having long dark brown hair and a shopping bag

    A little while later a man, wearing black trousers and a light coloured top with a black and white dog was seen walking down the street.

    Police are asking for them to get in touch via the 101 number.

  6. Appeal over hammer-wielding robbers in Grimsbypublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 19 June 2018

    Police are appealing for help after two robbers threatened their victims with a hammer, external in two separate incidents on the same night in Grimsby.

    The first incident happened on Eleanor Street at about 00:30 on 14 June, when a teenager had his bike and money stolen.

    The second happened a short time later on Oxford Street when a man was assaulted and left with injuries to his face.

    Police are looking for two men in their 20s, with short brown hair, one wearing a light grey tracksuit, the other a dark one.

    One of the men is described as white, the other as possibly mixed race.

    Police are appealing for information.

    Work to restore the historic grand entrance to Pearson Park in Hull is taking a step forward.

    Companies interested in winning the contract to carry out the restoration work are being invited to come forward.

    Last July, it was announced the Heritage Lottery fund had awarded Hull City council a £3m grant to bring the entrance archway back to its original design.

    The work will involve replacing lost features like the urns and reinstating the gates and screens.

    Pearson Park is Hull's first people's park and the land was given to the city by the Mayor, Zachariah Pearson, in 1860.

    The restoration of the listed archway is just the start as there are plans to reinstate the bridge over the lake, rebuild the Victorian conservatory and repair the Grade II-listed East Lodge.

    Scunthorpe United have confirmed reports they've turned down an offer from Bristol City for Hakeeb Adelakun.

    But a club source has told us they're not currently in formal negotiations with any club over the player.

    The 22-year-old winger is out of contract, but with the Iron due compensation for the player they can still accept or reject offers for the player.

    Meanwhile, the Iron have today announced that Rainham Steel has once again become the club's main shirt sponsor for the coming season.

    A new bus service providing a connection between Aldbrough on the east coast and Hull is running for the first time today.

    Many villagers had complained they've been left marooned after East Yorkshire Motor Services abruptly cancelled the 220 service last month

    The five-week trial has been organised by Aldbrough Parish Council which later plans to reassess the service.

    The council says the three-days-a-week bus could become permanent if enough people support it.

    Passengers can travel as far as Asda Bilton where they're able to transfer onto a regular 56 or 57 bus into Hull.

    There are concerns about plans for a 250-home development near Scunthorpe.

    The proposal is for the land south of Moorwell Road in Yaddlethorpe.

    Residents and councillors fear it could have adverse impact on traffic in the area.

    A decision on the proposals is expected to be made by the council later.

    Primary schools in Hull are bringing in a voluntary code of conduct to stop parents and carers from smoking at the school gates.

    The aim is to stop children seeing smoking as normal behaviour.

    Hull City Council banned smoking from its 91 playgrounds last year.

    Last month it was also banned from the sidelines of junior league games in Hull and the East Riding.

    Every month 40 people in Hull die as a result of conditions directly related to smoking.

    The Hull City Council figures also show around 27% of people in Hull smoke compared to 15.8% nationally.

    That is lower than in 2007 - when almost 40% of people in the city smoked.

    A woman's been taken to Hull Royal Infirmary after being hit by a car in the city.

    It happened on Spring Bank at about 11:00 this morning, by the Hull Daily Mail building.

    It's understood the woman suffered a head injury.

    Hundreds of public buildings and spaces in Yorkshire are being sold off by councils, it's being claimed.

    The figures have come from campaign group Locality, which has criticised the sale of parks, libraries, town halls and swimming pools.

    The charity submitted freedom of information requests to all local authorities in England, asking about asset sales.

    In the Yorkshire region, almost 500 council-owned sites are sold every year, according to the campaigners.

    Locality says this land shouldn't end up in the hands of developers and believes local authorities facing financial pressures are "denying future generations access to many community assets".

    The research was published as the group launched its Save Our Spaces campaign in a bid to keep assets in community ownership.

    A terminally ill man from East Yorkshire who has motor neurone disease has been made a Freemason, following in the footsteps of his dad and granddad.

    Jason Liversidge, from Rise, became a member of Wyke Millennium Lodge in Tickton near Beverley, which was specially adapted to allow him to participate.

    It's believed he's the first virtually paralysed person to become a Freemason.

    He's already taken part in many outdoor activities including climbing Mount Snowden in his wheelchair and abseiling off the Humber Bridge.

    The University of Hull hopes to influence government policy through a new group being launched at Westminster today.

    The Friends of the University of Hull All Party Parliamentary Group will share the university's expertise and research on controversial or overlooked areas.

    Hull North MP Diana Johnson will chair the group.

    Its membership will include Peers and MPs who graduated from the university or represent nearby constituencies.
