    Most of the rain will clear away this evening but it will remain cloudy overnight with hill fog. Overnight lows of 4C (39F).

    An often cloudy day tomorrow with the best of any bright or sunny spells in the north. Thicker cloud in the south and maybe some drizzle for the hills. A light NW breeze and a maximum temperature 7C (45F).

    Have a read of this tweeted this afternoon by West Yorkshire Police, it's great, although we're not too sure about its authenticity.

    Apart from having to walk 20 miles a day, you weren't allowed to wear anything but your uniform, just in case someone accused you of spying on the public!

  5. 'Drug waste' cleaned up at taxpayer's expensepublished at 16:29 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2017

    Look at all of this mess!

    Leeds City Council's cleaning team have tweeted this picture and they say it's from drug waste. 

    It was cleaned up using taxpayers' money, they also say they're trying find the culprits:

    This is the scene around J22 and J23 of the M62 eastbound. There's one lane closed because of an oil spillage. 

    The authorities are at the scene cleaning it up, so hopefully back to normal soon:

  7. Bradford's flood strategy throws up 'question marks'published at 15:40 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2017

    A senior politician in Bradford is warning that the council's proposed flooding strategy is "throwing up question marks."

    Leader of the district's Liberal Democrats Jeanette Sunderland brought plans to combat floods in the district before a scrutiny meeting last night. 

    Council officers argued the proposed flood management strategy would allocate help and information to the flood-hit areas that need it.

    In about six years' time work is due to start on HS2, but how will the controversial new rail service affect Leeds?

    Well the people behind the scheme have released a fact sheet that aims to address people's concerns and questions about HS2, external

    It includes some artist impressions of how Leeds station will look. 

    HS2 are proposing to build five new platforms that will connect to the existing building.

    But it will mean that roads around the station will have to be redesigned.

  10. Young woman mugged in Halifaxpublished at 14:41 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2017

    A woman has been mugged in the street in Halifax.

    It happened in the town centre at about 10:30 on Tuesday. 

    The 21-year-old woman was walking along Commercial Street when a man came up to her and stole her purse. He then drove off at speed in a black Ford Focus. 

    The suspect is white and was wearing a dark hoodie, grey jogging bottoms and blue trainers. 

  11. Leeds United: Luke Murphy joins Burton Albion on loanpublished at 13:50 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2017

    Burton Albion have signed midfielder Luke Murphy on loan from Championship rivals Leeds United until the end of the season.

    Murphy has made 111 appearances for Leeds since arriving from Crewe for a fee of about £1m in July 2013.

    But the 27-year-old has played in just one first-team game this season, in a 1-0 EFL Cup win at Luton in August.

    If you've got a TV like the one below and you don't like it any more, why not send it off to West Yorkshire Police... to be burnt.

    West Yorkshire Police are appealing for a set, like the one on the picture, to reconstruct a house fire that they're investigating, external

    Officers say it's the last item they need to make the reconstruction complete and they're asking the public if they can help.

    They say that "the TV’s are only required to furnish the room to replicate the furniture in the home and will be destroyed in the reconstruction."

    The funeral of Yassar Yaqub, 28, from Huddersfield, who was shot dead by police on a motorway slip road has been held.

  16. Driver dies after being discovered slumped at the wheelpublished at 12:05 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2017

    A man has died after being found unconscious at the wheel of his car in Leeds last night.

    He was found at about 23:40 slumped in his VW Golf at traffic lights on South Accommodation Road near to Cross Green Lane. 

    The 59-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead a shortly afterwards.   

    There had been no signs of a crash.

  18. M62 police shooting: Man appears before Leeds Magistrates Courtpublished at 11:44 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2017

    A 30-year-old man has appeared before Leeds Magistrates this morning charged with firearms offences in connection with a police operation on the M62 on Monday. 

    Moshin Amin spoke only to confirm his name and address. He's charged with two firearms offences The charges relate to a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun. Possession of a firearm with intent to cause of fear of violence, Possession of a sound moderator and possession of ammunition. 

    He was remanded in custody to appear before Leeds Crown Court on 3 February
