    Police have issued CCTV, external images of a man they want to speak to about a serious assault in Leeds.

    Leeds District CID would like to speak to anyone who recognises the man who they want to speak to in connection with the assault in Blayds Yard, Leeds, during the early hours of Christmas Eve. 

    The incident took place when the victim, a 37-year old-man, was assaulted, shortly after 01:30 and received a serious facial injury.

    Former Super League champions Bradford Bulls have been liquidated after the club's administrator rejected a bid to save the club.

    The Bulls entered administration for a third time in four years in November.

    The administrators hoped to have a deal agreed by Christmas but turned down a bid from a consortium on 29 December.

    Despite the liquidation, the Rugby Football League has confirmed that a new Bradford side could compete in the second-tier Championship in 2017.

    Police carried out a pre-planned operation at around 18:00 on Monday

    A number of cars were stopped by officers. These operations took place at junction 24 of the M62 at Ainley Top and a second site close to Chain Bar in Bradford.

    A police weapon was fired at the Ainley Top site.

    A man, named today as Yassar Yaqub from Huddersfield, died after the incident.

    Five people were arrested - three at the Huddersfield incident and two at the Bradford operation.

    Police contacted the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

    The site at Ainley Top was sealed off and sliproads to access and exit the motorway were closed.

    Forensic teams spent much of Tuesday at the site.

    Mr Yaqub's family said they were "in shock and distraught."

    On Tuesday evening the IPCC revealed they had recovered a suspected non-police issue firearm from the car in which Mr Yaqub was travelling.

    IPCC Commissioner Derrick Campbell has released a statement as the organisation begins its investigation.

    They are looking into what happened at Ainley Top on Monday evening during the police operation after which Yassar Yaqub died.

    Mr Campbell said: “My thoughts are with Mr Yaqub’s family and all those affected at this difficult time. Though in its early stages, this investigation is making good progress but will be complex. We will be working hard to establish exactly what happened and would ask for patience while our investigation continues.”

    A suspected firearm has been found in the car carrying Yassar Yaqub, who was shot in a police operation near the M62 yesterday evening, police watchdog the Independent Police Complaints Commission has revealed.

    The lorries at Ainley Top are now beginning to remove the vehicles involved in last night's incident.

    Specialist vehicles are being used to remove the cars from the westbound exit sliproad of the M62 at Ainley Top.

    The slip has been closed since the incident, in which Huddersfield man Yassar Yaqub died, took place at around 18:00 on Monday evening.

    The closure of the westbound sliproad of the M62 at junction 24 (Ainley Top) is having a knock-on to other routes in the area.

    Many vehicles are seeking alternative routes, including leaving the motorway at junction 25 (Brighouse/Huddersfield).

    This means arterial routes in and around the town are slower than usual - as demonstrated in this traffic update from Google, with red meaning slow traffic.

    It was previously stated by West Yorkshire Police and Highways England that it would remain closed until at least 18:00.

    More pictured have emerged of the man who died following a police operation in Huddersfield. 

    Yassar Yaqub, 28, died after the incident on the slip road of the M62 on Monday evening.

    West Yorkshire Police said a force firearm was discharged as part of an operation.

    A force spokesman said five people have been arrested as part of the operation, including three in the M62 incident.

    It related to "information received about criminal possession of a firearm", and vehicles were stopped at two locations, said the force.

    The family of a man shot by police have said they are "in shock and distraught."

    The family of Yassar Yaqub, who died following a police operation close the the M62 at Ainley Top in Huddersfield, released a statement through their solicitor which says: "They would ask the media to respect their privacy at this difficult time. 

    "The family are fully aware that the incident that led to the death of Mr Yaqub is currently being investigated by the IPCC and they do not wish to make any further comment at this stage."
