  1. Watch: Stonehenge sounds recreated using virtual technologypublished at 11:21 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2017

    Scientists have recreated the sounds of Stonehenge from 3,000 years ago using virtual reality.

    Using technology created for the video games industry, visitors will be able to experience the sounds heard when the stone circle was intact.

    Dr Rupert Till, from the University of Huddersfield, said the technology will recreate the soundscape from thousands of years ago.

    The owners of a new Bradford rugby league club will need to financially support the side for three years, says the Rugby Football League.

    Bradford Bulls were liquidated on Tuesday after administrators were unable to find a suitable buyer.

    The governing body has received 10 expressions of interest and has set a deadline of Monday, 9 January.

    Bidders are more likely to succeed if they promise to honour season tickets and rugby league debts, says the RFL.

  3. M62 police shooting: Inquest opened and adjournedpublished at 10:44 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2017

    While the funeral of Yassar Yaqub is taking place, an inquest into his death has been opened and adjourned this morning.

    Coroner Martin Fleming's hearing only lasted three minutes. 

    The time of death was recorded as 18.47 and the provisional cause of death was given as gunshot wounds to the chest.

    The hearing was adjourned until 31 March.

  5. M62 police shooting: People gather to pay respectspublished at 10:04 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2017

    People gather to pay their last respects to Yassar Yaqub, whose funeral is being held this morning in Huddersfield.

    The 28-year-old was shot and killed by police on Monday evening.

    Moshin Amin, 30, from Dewsbury, who was arrested as part of the operation, will appear in court later charged with firearms offences.  

    Four other men arrested as part of the operation have been released on police bail.  

    The Independent Police Complaints Commission said none of the officers involved in the shooting were using body-worn video cameras and no relevant CCTV footage of the incident has been found.

    The funeral of a man shot dead by police on a motorway sliproad is taking place this morning. The coffin of Yassar Yaqub was carried into mosque in Huddersfield.

    A post-mortem examination found Mr Yaqub died from gunshot wounds to his chest.  

    His father, Mohammed Yaqub, told BBC Radio Leeds: "He will be missed by us very deeply. He will still live on in our hearts day-to-day."  

    Meanwhile, Moshin Amin, 30, from Dewsbury, who was arrested as part of the operation, will appear in court later charged with firearms offences.

    Castleford Tigers will claim they should receive £500,000 in compensation after winger Denny Solomona (pictured left) left to join Sale Sharks in December.

    Solomona, 23, is alleged to have demanded his wages were doubled before his controversial rugby code switch.

    Court papers seen by the BBC claim Sale had been agitating for Solomona to move since last summer, and that they acted with the player and agent Andy Clarke.

    The papers also allege Sale knew he was under contract until November 2018.

    More than 1,500 people have signed a petition to try and stop a high-wire adventure attraction coming to Roundhay Park.

    They want Leeds City Council to reject Go Ape's plans - which would include aerial zip wires and treetop rope climbing. 

    Yesterday we told you that Leeds City Council were extending the consultation period for people to have their say on the plans.

    One of the big concerns is parking .

    A man has been charged in connection with a police operation on the M62 in which an officer shot a man dead.

    Moshin Amin, 30, from Broomer Street, Dewsbury, has been charged with firearms offences related to a loaded semi-automatic handgun.

    Yassar Yaqub, 28, from Huddersfield, was shot when police stopped a car near junction 24 of the M62 on Monday.

    Mr Amin has been detained in custody and will appear before Leeds magistrates this morning.

    The funeral of a man shot dead by police on a motorway slip road is expected to take place later today.

    Yassar Yaqub, 28, from Huddersfield, was shot in a car stopped near junction 24 of the M62 as part of a planned operation on Monday.

    An inquest into his death is also due to open at Bradford Coroner's Court.

    A post-mortem examination found Mr Yaqub died from gunshot wounds to his chest.

    People who worked at the Rowntree Mackintosh factory in Castleford are being urged to come forward - to help celebrate 40 years of After Eight mints being made there.

    Wakefield Council say the history of the factory will be celebrated with a display and community event in Castleford later this year.

    They want former employees to get in touch to share their experiences and memories.
