A rare colony of hawfinches, at The Yorkshire Arboretum, near Malton in North Yorkshire, will be seen on national television next week.
The birds, notable for their oversized beaks which can shear apart large stones and seeds, will feature on BBC Winterwatch on Monday, after being photographed by wildlife artist Robert E Fuller.
After discovering an influx of the birds, Robert built the country’s only purpose built hawfinch hide, so that he could watch their behaviour. Take a look at it here:
Hawfinches are usually found in Eastern Europe. There are estimated to be only 1,500 in the UK.
Robert managed to take these impressive photographs:
The birds sizeable skull is designed to accommodate their unusually large beaks and strong jaws.
It's this bite that sets the hawfinch apart from other finches - the avian equivalent of a fireman’s hydraulic cutter!
Robert will be talking about the project with the BBC Winterwatch team on Monday.

The RSPB has ended its involvement with the Peak District Bird of Prey Initiative, following the partnership project’s continued failure to improve the fortunes of raptors in the Dark Peak.
The Peak District Bird of Prey Initiative was set up in 2011 in response to low numbers, poor breeding success and illegal persecution of birds of prey.
The initiative set five-year targets for healthy sustainable breeding populations of three species - merlin, peregrine and short-eared owl, and from 2016 expanded these targets to include hen harrier and goshawk.
However, the Initiative failed to meet any of these targets and for some species the situation has continued to worsen. Last year, no peregrines successfully bred in the Dark Peak for the first time since 1984.
