    South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue have released photographs of firefighters combating the flames at the former Dalton Progressive Working Men's Club on Doncaster Road in Rotherham.

    Up to 30 firefighters were at the scene from the early hours of the morning and the A630 which connects Doncaster and Rotherham was closed to traffic for safety reasons:

    The fire has now been brought under control but six appliances were on site until around 08:00 this morning damping down.

    The southbound stretch of the A630 from Rotherham to Doncaster is open, if you're travelling north through that stretch you will be diverted onto an alternative route this morning.

    Incident commander, Trevor Bernard told BBC Radio Sheffield earlier that the fire was under control and that things are "returning to normality".

    A Yorkshire author is looking to trace people with memories of three lesser-known disasters, external to have occurred in the county.

    Richard Jones, from Bridlington, has already campaigned to have a memorial erected for the victims of the 1995 Lockington rail crash, near Driffield, and has written books about several other man-made catastrophes around the UK.

    A country park near Wakefield has found high levels of bacteria in the water that can cause illness, which in some cases could be serious.

    It means watersports at Pugney's, external have been temporarily suspended and people are being told to keep out of the water.

    Dog owners are also being asked to keep their pets away from the lake.

    Eggborough coal-fired power plant is to close, as it has ceased "to be economically viable to continue operations", the owners said.

    The plant near Selby, employs more than 250 people, and has been threatened with closure for the last few years.

    The move follows the plant's failure to secure funding for 2018-2019.

    In a statement Eggborough Power Limited said it would meet its obligations under its current capacity market contract, which runs through to the end of September 2018.

    But without a contract for future years it "will cease to be economically viable to continue operations at the station" which supplies 5% of the power in the UK, equivalent to powering around two million homes.

    A Sheffield landlord who has the whole of a warehouse he owns filled with non-recyclable rubbish left by tenants who then abandoned the site has been talking to me about the experience.

    It has cost Giles Norton £250,000 so far in clean up costs and there are also demands for him to pay the business rates for the period as well.

    So is this a new form of fly-tipping common in South Yorkshire?

    I've spent the morning in Rotherham where South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue has been dealing with a large fire at the former Dalton Progressive Working Men's Club on Doncaster Road.

    Up to 30 firefighters have been on the scene since the early hours of this morning, but the good news is that the fire is under control and traffic is starting to be allowed past the site.

    Some of the most affordable houses in the country are in Bradford according to a new study out today. Lloyds Bank says it's the third cheapest place to buy a home.

    The bank has compiled two tables, one showing places with the most expensive housing and the other showing the 20 areas where property is most affordable.

    They show an average house in Oxford will cost 11-and-a-half times someone's average earnings, but in Bradford a house will only cost four-and-a-half times the average earning figure.

    York is the only city in the north of England to appear on the second list: it's 17th in the top-20 list of the most expensive places to live.

    Tickets to see the international megastar, Lionel Richie, perform at Scarborough's Open Air Theatre go on sale today.

    Lionel, whose sold more than 100 million albums worldwide, is coming to the North Yorkshire coast in June, as part of his UK tour.

    He joins a star-packed 2018 line-up at Europe’s largest open air theatre, which includes Britney Spears, Gary Barlow, Steps and Alfie Boe.

    Acrid white smoke is blowing up Doncaster Road in Rotherham as firefighters work on making a building safe following a large fire overnight.

    Six appliances and an aerial platform are in use at the former Dalton Progressive Working Men's Club on Doncaster Road. The building is thought to be derelict.

    The A630 is closed between the junctions with Dalton Lane and Magna Lane.

    Police say they are becoming increasingly concerned for the welfare of 17-year-old from York.

    Brandon Fretwell was last seen in the Acomb area of the city at around 23:45 last night.

    He's described as being white, 6ft 5in tall, with black short hair.

    When last seen he was wearing a black tracksuit, with white stripes down the arms and was carrying a camouflage rucksack.

    Police want anyone who has seen him, or knows of his whereabouts, to contact them.

    There's a warning this morning that older people in rural areas like parts of North Yorkshire are facing serious problems accessing health services, because of where they live.

    It comes as a report from the think-tank Rural England says some people are putting off going to see a GP or attend a hospital appointment because of the difficulties of getting there and back, until their health deteriorates.

    Volunteer drivers in the Ripon area say they've clocked up more than 50,000 miles in a year helping older people get out and about.

    The mother of a baby found dead in a shoebox has told an inquest she covered up her pregnancy as she was too "scared and ashamed" to tell her family.

    Ayesha Tariq was 19 when she gave birth alone at her home in Keighley, West Yorkshire, in 2013.

    Bradford Coroner's Court (pictured) heard the child did not cry when it was born so she placed it in a box under her bed.

    A pathologist who gave evidence said it was "impossible" to say if the child had been stillborn or not.
