  2. Stagecoach East Coast rail franchise to end earlypublished at 06:30 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2018

    Stagecoach, which runs the East Coast Main Line through Yorkshire to London, can only run the franchise for "only a few months more" after the government said the operator had "got its numbers wrong", the Transport Secretary's confirmed.

    Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said Stagecoach would continue running the London to Edinburgh line only for "a small number of months and no more".

    He said the government may step in to run the service.

    He added that the day-to-day operation of the line would be unaffected.

    The East Coast Mainline franchise was taken into public ownership in 2009 after being run by National Express.

    A 56-year-old woman from Bradford was pushed to the ground and robbed by a man who had been following her - police want to speak to this man about it:

    It happened at 17:40 last Friday in Undercliffe at a bus stop on Otley Road near the junction with Barmby Road.

    The woman had seen a man following her from Barmby Road to the bus stop, as she waited for the bus the man tried to grab her handbag.

    She fell to the ground and he ran off with it - If you can help officers call West Yorkshire Police on 101.

    Police want to speak to him after a wallet was stolen from a van in Leeds and then the bank cards were used in hardware stores.

    The wallet was taken from the van on Claremont Road in Headingley on 26 January.

    One of the stolen cards was then used at a hardware shop in Meanwood where this CCTV footage was taken.

    Concern is growing for a woman from Eastbourne, who failed to return from a trip to London.

    Kirsty Glendinning, 33, was last seen at lunch-time on 2 February, when she caught a train to the capital.

    She was due back the following day, but failed to show.

    She has been in contact on social media, and it's thought she's either still in London or in the Doncaster area.

    Publicly funded watersports at a West Yorkshire country park could be under threat.

    The activity at Pugneys Country Park is currently funded and run by Wakefield Council, but the authority says that only about 30 people regularly use the facility.

    They also say they have been having "difficulties recruiting qualified staff" and that it isn't "commercially viable or sustainable in its current format"

    Councillors will discuss the issue next week with a view to hiring out the facility to "organised clubs and groups".

    Headlining the event will be Grammy award-winner Father John Misty with support from Edwyn Collins and Leeds band Hookworms.

    Special pop-up bars and street food will also be on sale.

    The Piece Hall recently underwent an £19m restoration and reopened in summer last year.

    A Leeds academic says she supports the idea of a new ring-fenced tax to fund the NHS and social care.

    The new tax has been proposed by a panel of health experts, set up by the Liberal Democrats, and says the NHS in England should be given an extra £4bn on top of inflation in the next financial year.

    Sue Sherwin, Dean of the School of Health and Community Studies at Leeds Beckett University says "The NHS has been underfunded for almost a decade and any government intervention to improve this situation is welcome."

    “It is hoped that this investment will not be used to restructure the NHS into accountable care organisations that Stephen Hawking described in the press last week as a precursor to privatisation."

    People campaigning against plans for a potential fracking site on the Yorkshire/Derbyshire border have been protesting at a Derbyshire County Council meeting today.

    Eckington Against Fracking don't want INEOS to carry out exploratory drilling at a site at Marsh Lane, between Sheffield and Chesterfield; INEOS also want to do something similar at Misson near Doncaster.

    The BBC is awaiting a response from INEOS and the final decision on the site will be made by central government and not Derbyshire County Council.

    Today Sport Relief 2018 is launched.

    The campaign which runs alongside Comic Relief brings together the worlds of sport and entertainment to raise money to help vulnerable people in both the UK and the world's poorest countries.

    A project which has benefited from a donation from the charity is Sage Fingers, a gardening project in the Pitsmoor area of Sheffield.

    Ruby Munson-Hirst is their community fundraiser and told me how the project works:

    A dog attacked and killed a man a week after it had been returned to its owner by police, a court has heard.

    David Ellam, 52, died after being attacked by the mongrel bull terrier in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, in August 2016.

    Aaron Joseph, 30, denies one charge of owning a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death.

    Leeds Crown Court heard the dog, called Alex, was returned because it was not classed as a dangerous breed.

    Prosecutor Richard Walters said Mr Ellam had raised concerns the dog might be a banned pit bull terrier, two months before his death.

    The trial continues.

    Last week Sheffield's Pram Man John Burkill was invited to Buckingham Palace for a reception celebrating the volunteers at Macmillan Cancer Support, hosted by the charity's patron HRH Prince Charles.

    John was one of 180 guests from across the country to attend the reception and, as promised, wore that green wig throughout!

    He's been donning his green curly wig and walking around Sheffield with his pram for decades, to raise money for charity. He was the only volunteer to attend from South Yorkshire and has so far raised over £350,000 for Macmillian.

    A 63-year-old man has died after a car crash in Bradford this morning.

    It happened in the Holme Wood area at 07:45 on Madison Avenue at the junction with Mansel Mews.

    West Yorkshire police say a blue Nissan Qashqai and a black Toyota Auris were involved.

    The driver of the Nissan died at the scene - Officers say there were no other injuries.
