    Officials in Calderdale are looking at the future of Todmorden College.

    They're discussing what to do with the building and the site after Aldi put in a proposal to buy it and turn it into a new store.

    But Todmorden Learning Centre and Community hub wants to keep the existing building and use it for education, business and children's services.

    The council's cabinet will look at both plans next week.

    Swim England has announced that nine athletes who either live or train in Yorkshire will be part of the Team England diving squad for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

    They are:

    • Ross Haslam - City of Sheffield Diving Club
    • Alicia Blagg - City of Leeds Diving Club
    • Chris Mears - City of Leeds Diving Club
    • Daniel Goodfellow - City of Leeds Diving Club
    • Jack Laugher - City of Leeds Diving Club
    • Katherine Torrance - City of Leeds Diving Club
    • Lois Toulson - City of Leeds Diving Club
    • Matty Lee - City of Leeds Diving Club

    As well as this, five of the coaching staff for the games are also from the White Rose county.

    The squad was finalised after January's British Diving Championships in Plymouth and the games take place on Australia's Gold Coast beginning on 4 April and are live across the BBC.

    Three North Yorkshire villages are in with a chance of being honoured this week.

    Goathland, Robin Hoods Bay and Great Ayton are being featured in the northern heats of Channel 4's Village of the Year show.

    Judges have been touring villages across the country, looking at archaeology, garden design and local crafts.

    The series culminates in a grand final on Saturday.

  6. Police appeal over South Yorkshire crashpublished at 11:44 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2018

    South Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious collision in Marr at the weekend.

    The crash happened at around 21:30 on Saturday evening on Barnsley Road, when a silver and grey car collided with a wall.

    The 20-year-old driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

    It's understood the vehicle was heading in the direction of Doncaster and the A1(M).

    Officers want to hear from any witnesses - in particular the driver of a white van who is understood to have been travelling through the area at the time of the crash.

    Bradford City have parted ways with their manager Stuart McCall after a run of poor form.

    It was his second spell in charge of the Bantams, which started in June 2016 and he led Bradford to the League One play-off final last season, a game they lost to Millwall.

    McCall spent 10 years with Bradford as a player over two separate spells before becoming manager for the first time in May 2007.

    McCall's last game in charge was Saturday's 2-1 defeat at relegation-threatened Oldham, while the Bantams' previous home game saw them thrashed 4-0 by struggling AFC Wimbledon.

    Police are investigating a vandal attack at a cemetery in Scarborough.

    They say there was "significant damage" to some of the gravestones in the incident at Woodlands Cemetary last night.

    Officers say the incident is being investigated and that they "have a suspect for the damage."

    Almost a year since a teenage boy was stabbed to death in Leeds, his cousin says he's trying to educate young people about the dangers of knife crime.

    Irfan Wahid (pictured) was killed in Harehills in February 2017.

    A 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named, was convicted of his manslaughter in September last year and was detained for 10 years.

    Figures show the number of offences for having a knife went up by more than half across Yorkshire last year.

    An accident on the northbound side of the M1 near junction 34 at Meadowhall has been cleared by the emergency services and all lanes have re-opened.

    Two lanes were shut when a lorry and car collided earlier this morning but traffic has now returned to normal on that stretch and on nearby surrounding routes.

    The reality TV show saw nine members of the public trying to stay on the run for 25 days and avoid capture by a team of experts.

    One of the contestants in the current series was the deputy lord mayor of Sheffield, Magid Magid, who survived 19 days on the run.

    An accident has closed two lanes on the northbound side of the M1 just after junction 34 at Meadowhall.

    The inside two lanes of four have been shut while the emergency services deal with the incident which involves a car and a lorry.

    As you can see below, traffic is queuing on the main carriageway and also on the entry slip road joining the motorway near the Tinsley viaduct:

    Looking at speed sensors, surrounding routes are also busy as motorists try to divert onto alternative routes.

    It's expected to be at least an hour until traffic has returned to normal in that part of South Yorkshire.

    The sacking of Bradford City manager Stuart McCall, which was announced a short time ago, comes after a run of six defeats in a row.

    The 53-year-old's departure brings to an end his second spell in charge of the Bantams, with whom he also started his career as a player.

    In a statement, the club said, external the decision to terminate McCall's contract had "not been taken lightly".

    "Unfortunately, we have now suffered six straight defeats and the last two fixtures in particular have not brought about the positive change in performances or results that we all hoped for," the statement said.

    "Stuart is a City Legend and always will be. He will, of course, always be welcome back at Valley Parade."

  15. Man faces attempted murder charges over arson attackpublished at 10:17 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2018

    A man from Doncaster is due to appear in court later charged with three counts of attempted murder after an arson attack in Leeds.

    Anthony Walters, 33, of Beckett Road, Wheatley Park, in Doncaster, is due to appear at Leeds Magistrates' Court in relation to the fire at a house in Hill Top Mount in Harehills, on 24 January.

    A mother and her two children had to be rescued from the property by firefighters.

    Police investigating an assault on a 26-year-old man from Selby say they need help from the public to trace the movements of a distinctive Ford Transit van.

    They say the van driver, who was travelling from York towards Selby last Wednesday, was in the black Ford Transit van with two white stripes on the bonnet and grey bumpers (pictured).

    He pulled over to take a break in a lay-by on the A19, between Riccall and Barlby, where he was assaulted and the van was taken.

    The van was later seen on the A1 in West Yorkshire and then in the Pontefract area and near Monk Fryston, police say.

    The vehicle was eventually located in Barlow, near Selby.

    Police would like to speak to anyone who saw the van being driven.

    The first new electric trains destined for the north of England are now under construction.

    They're being built in Spain and will replace outdated "Pacer" trains.

    Northern says it plans to introduce nearly 100 by early 2020 and refurbish the rest of their fleet.

    The firm says the new trains will have air conditioning, reservable seats and free wifi.
