  1. Serious injury accident appeal in Doncasterpublished at 16:18 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2018

    A man has been left with serious injuries after a crash involving a car and a van in Doncaster.

    It happened at the junction of Wentworth Road and Wheatley Hall Road when a Kia Picanto collided with a Ford Transit van.

    The 25- year-old driver of the car is being treated in hospital.

    The driver of the van, along with a passenger, left the scene in a car believed to have been stolen from the crash scene and which was later found burnt out.

    Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened on Monday night.

    A man whose out-of-control bull terrier attacked and killed his neighbour has been jailed for 10 years.

    David Ellam, 52, was mauled by Aaron Joseph's dog while he attempted to defend his own dog in Huddersfield in 2016.

    It had been returned by police a week before the attack because it was not classed as a dangerous breed.

    At Leeds Crown Court, Joseph, 30, was convicted of owning a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death.

    Joseph's dog, named Alex, escaped from its kennel on 15 August and attacked Mr Ellam while he walked his Yorkshire terrier outside his Riddings Road flat.

    Mr Ellam suffered multiple injuries and later died in hospital.

    During the trial, prosecutor Richard Walters said that two months prior to Mr Ellam's death he raised concerns his neighbour's dog may have been a banned pit bull terrier.

    Police in Bradford are searching for two men after they tried to carjack a woman who was waiting in her car at a supermarket.

    It happened at about 15:10 on 3 February when a woman in her 20s was sitting in a black Volkswagen Tiguan at the Tesco car park in Canal Road.

    Two men came up to the car and opened the door and told her to get out, a struggle started before another man came to the woman's aid.

    The men ran off and the woman was left with "very minor injuries".

    Police say they're looking for two Asian men in their 20s, both skinny, about 5ft 10ins tall and both had local accents.

  5. Teenage rapist sentenced in Rotherhampublished at 15:13 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2018

    An 18-year-old has been sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for two years, after pleading guilty to raping a 12-year-old girl in Rotherham.

    Charlie Flinders, of South Street, Rotherham, appeared before Sheffield Crown Court today to be sentenced.

    He pleaded guilty to rape at a court hearing in December and evidence of his sexual contact with his victim via text messages was uncovered during the police investigation.

    A man has a broken cheekbone, a broken nose and two smashed teeth after being attacked in York, external.

    He was waiting to use a city centre cash machine on Rougier Street in the early hours of Saturday morning when he was assaulted.

    Police are appealing for witnesses.

    Unwanted cats in Yorkshire are being sent to London where there is higher demand for pet moggies.

    The scheme, run by Yorkshire Cat Rescue and Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, saw more than 100 cats sent south in 2017.

    Yorkshire Cat Rescue said it was not sure why the county had a surplus but urged owners to neuter their pets.

    The charity, based in Keighley, West Yorkshire, said the scheme had been a "brilliant partnership" between the two organisations.

    West Yorkshire Police say they want people to get in touch with them "immediately” if they see 54-year-old Stephen Isaacs.

    He's from the Harehills area and there was an unconfirmed sighting of him near the St John’s Centre in Leeds city centre yesterday.

    He was described as wearing all dark clothing and with shoulder-length dreadlocks.

    The Cathedral Archer Project in Sheffield says it's delighted to be have been granted well over a quarter of a million pounds by The Big Lottery Fund.

    The project runs a programme called Changing Lives, external which supports homeless people through activities.

    The idea behind it is to then encourage them to go into volunteering, learning and/or paid employment.

    The family of a man who died after being attacked by a dog in Huddersfield has paid tribute to him after the dog's owner was sentenced to 10 years in jail today.

    David Ellam (pictured), 52, was mauled by Aaron Joseph's dog while he attempted to defend his own in Huddersfield in 2016.

    At Leeds Crown Court, Joseph, 30, was convicted of owning a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death.

    In a statement, Mr Ellam's family said: "Losing Dave was like someone had turned out the light in our lives.

    "Dave was loved and adored by his nephews, niece, partner, wife, brothers, extended family and friends and all those that knew him."

    Mr Ellam "was and will forever and always be our world", they added.

    It began with a heartening conversation between strangers overheard on a train.

    Now, there's been a reunion involving two of the people who inadvertently became the stuff of viral coverage on social media:

    Charity worker Hannah Thornton, from Sheffield, wrote a letter and handed it to two men as she got off her train after she was impressed at how they struck up a long conversation about their lives.

    Hannah said the two men "instantly hit it off... like they'd been best friends for years".

    Her thank you note has been shared 7,000 times on Twitter and liked 40,000.

    One of the men, Bill (pictured with Hannah), said it had been "a bizarre day" as he was interviewed on BBC local radio after he gave a homeless woman money on his way to the station.

    More equipment is being moved from the site in North Yorkshire where a company wants to drill for shale gas. It follows equipment being moved from the site last week.

    Third Energy is still waiting for final approval from the government, before it can carry out the fracking technique.

    In January, Business Secretary, Greg Clark, said he would not give the go-ahead until financial assessments of the company had been completed.

    Protesters, who have been at the site since September, welcomed the decision.

    A man who was found guilty of owning an out-of-control dog after the animal fatally injured a neighbour has been sent to jail for 10 years.

    Aaron Joseph (pictured), 30 of Riddings Road, Huddersfield, was sentenced today at Leeds Crown Court after his five-year-old Staffordshire cross-breed dog escaped from its kennel and fatally attacked David Ellam in August last year.

    Leeds Crown Court heard the dog called Alex had been returned by police just a week before the attack because it was not classed as a dangerous breed.

    The court heard during his trial that Joseph failed to muzzle his dog and keep it on a lead despite being ordered by a court to do so.

    A pedestrian who died after being hit by a car in Doncaster in January has been named by police as 60-year-old Peter Best.

    Mr Best was hit by a blue BMW on Field Road in Thorne, close to the junction with St Nicholas Road, at about 19:30 on Saturday 20 January.

    He was treated in hospital for his injuries but he died five days later.

    Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact police.
