  19. Teenagers' shooting plot 'off the scale'published at 06:54 British Summer Time 25 May 2018

The case of two teenage boys who plotted a mass shooting at a school in North Yorkshire has been described as "off the scale" by the former Head of the National Association of Probation Officers.

    Leeds courtImage source, PA

The two boys, both 15, were found guilty at Leeds Crown Court yesterday of planning to shoot and kill pupils and teachers at a school in Northallerton.

During the trial the jury was told the pair had researched and discussed the Columbine massacre, an attack which saw 12 students and a teacher being shot and killed and many others injured in Colorado in 1999.

Harry Fletcher, the former Head of the National Association of Probation Officers, said: "It's quite extraordinary the thinking of these two could get so distorted that they genuinely wanted to take out pupils and teachers they didn't like."

The boys will be sentenced in July after psychiatric reports have been completed.
