    Police in Harrogate say they're looking for a man who walked up to a teenage girl and punched her in the face as she waited for a bus.

    The 16-year old was hit by a man she didn't know opposite the Royal Hall on Ripon Road at about 16:50 on Monday.

    Officers say they're looking for a white man, aged about 40, and 5ft 9in tall.

    He has a bald head and was wearing a bright green t-shirt with a logo in the middle and khaki shorts.

  3. Inside and out at Doncaster's Brodsworth Hall after revamppublished at 14:38 British Summer Time 24 May 2018

    Earlier we mentioned that Doncaster's Brodsworth Hall has been give a £1.5m spruce up, external - well here's a few pictures of how it is looking:

    Work by English Heritage's conservation specialists has been carried out to the house, built in the 1860s, along with its contents.

    The buildlng is now watertight and its historic heating system has been adapted to ensure effective temperature control to protect the original Victorian interiors.

    A painting by society painter Sir Thomas Lawrence, from 1804, featuring the grandmother and father of the builder of Brodsworth, Charles Sabine Thellusson, has also been cleaned and conserved

    All together 1164 objects in 27 rooms in the house were moved; 94 metres of carpet was rolled for cleaning and 320 chandelier pieces were individually cleaned.

    Four years of roadworks costing nearly £40m are due to start on York's Outer Ring Road next month.

    The council is upgrading seven roundabouts and hope the improvements will cut congestion and reduce journey times.

    Two men have been arrested after a man was shot as he sat in a car at traffic lights in Leeds city centre earlier this month.

    The men, aged 21 and 26, were arrested this morning on suspicion of tghe attempted murder of a man in Burmantofts Street on 9 May.

    The 23-year-old man was sitting in a BMW at 18:30 when he was shot.

    He was treated for a minor shoulder injury at nearby St James's Hospital.

    The arrested men remain in custody.

    Councillors have been told there is no guarantee disabled people will benefit from a new housing scheme aimed at them, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    The scheme at Elsecar in Barnsley has been granted planning permission despite councillors being told there is legal obligation to actually make the properties available for those who need care.

    The old ticket master's office at Elsecar railway station will be remodelled to provide one house under the scheme, with a strip of land alongside the station used to provide a total of 14 further homes, including apartments, bungalows and houses.

    The intention is that disabled residents will live in some of the homes, with their carers occupying others in the scheme.

  7. Suffolk man identified as fatal A1(M) lorry crash victimpublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 24 May 2018

    A 55-year-old man from Suffolk has been identified as the victim of a fatal crash on the A1(M) in North Yorkshire earlier this week, police have confirmed.

    The crash happened just before 07:00 on Tuesday on the A1(M) northbound between junctions 50 (Baldersby/Ripon) and 51 (Leeming Bar/Bedale).

    The lorry collided with a stationary car transporter which had broken down in the inside lane.

    North Yorkshire police said it was "not yet in a position to release the identity of the man who died".

    The driver of another HGV which was travelling north shortly before the collision, and who took evasive action to avoid the car transporter, is being asked to come forward.

    It's possible that vehicle entered the motorway from junction 49 or 50, police say.

    Officers are also appealing to anyone who may have dash-cam footage taken before the crash happened, or of the collision itself, to come forward.

    Three masked men who robbed an 18-year-old woman in her own home in Leeds earlier this month are being sought by police.

    The incident happened at a house on Stonegate Road in Moortown on 8 May as the woman was home alone.

    The three men got in and threatened the woman before stealing jewellery and cash.

    They then left in a grey Audi S3 which police say was "relatively rare and is eye-catching due to its modifications".

    A man who killed his victim by stamping on his head has been jailed for life.

    Dawid Kutek, 34, of Ashgrove, Great Horton, Bradford, was found guilty of murder earlier this month.

    His victim Tadeusz Pac, 39 (pictured below), suffered a catalogue of injuries including more than a dozen fractures to his ribs, damage to his throat and abdominal bleeding.

    The attack had been so severe that marks matching Kutek's sandals were found on his head.

    Kutek had repeatedly stamped on his drinking partner after mistakenly accusing him of being "a grass" during a drinking session last November.

    Judge Neil Davey QC told Kutek he must serve a minimum of 17 years in jail.

    Some of Sheffield's busiest roads will be closed overnight for resurfacing work, external.

    They include roads in Attercliffe, Tinsley and on Chesterfield Road.

    The work will be done between 19:00 and 07:00.

    Work in the Attercliffe area is expected to be completed by the end of June.

    The surfacing of Chesterfield Road, between Heeley Bridge and Derbyshire Lane, is due to run for approximately four weeks between June and July.

    Doing the work overnight is designed to reduce disruption, the council said.

    Mike Tomlinson, the widower of Jane Tomlinson CBE, and Premier League referee Martin Atkinson are among a group who are to cycle from the UK to Russia.

    The group will have to cycle 1,800 miles over 18 days.

    They will start from St George's Park and end in Kaliningrad in Russia - coinciding with England's final group stage match in the football Word Cup.

    The ride is aiming to raise £40,000 for a variety of charities including The Jane Tomlinson Appeal & Yorkshire Young Achievers.

    An insurer believes a rise in dog thefts is partly due to the increasing popularity of expensive designer breeds such as the French bulldog - which can cost more than £1,000.

    Figures from insurance company Direct Line show there were 346 thefts in Yorkshire last year - out of a total of 1,900 across the UK.

    The insurer said Yorkshire had the highest number of thefts outside London.

    However, the data reveals one-in-five owners have their stolen pet returned to them.

    Brodsworth Hall in Doncaster reopens today after a £1.5m restoration.

    The Victorian mansion was built in the Italianate style between 1861 and 1863, as an "up-to-date" new home for the Thellusson family.

    The house has remained largely unchanged since the 1860s and was passed to English Heritage, external in 1990.
