    Leeds has reached the final of a competition to get Britain's roads ready for driverless cars.

    The council have been given £30,000 for a project looking at how data from digitally connected cars can be used to improve traffic lights and reduce queues.

    They are up against four other entrants for the first prize of £50,000 and the winner will be announced in the autumn.

    The Roads for the Future competition, external was launched by Highways England and Innovate UK to prepare the country's road network for the growth of driverless vehicles.

    A rare Rolex watch which was originally bought for £69 has sold for £80,000 at auction.

    The Rolex Submariner 5513, purchased from a jewellery shop in Doncaster, is one of the few that have a dial showing only the numbers three, six and nine.

    These Explorer dials were normally replaced with a standard numberless dial when they were serviced.

    The watch, which had only been owned by the person who bought it in 1966, also came with the original receipt.

    He said a late submission of final times by Network Rail was to blame for the problems experienced on Monday.

    Hundreds of services were cancelled, including one-in-seven Northern Rail services.

    Police have issued an e-fit image of a man they want to question about the rape of a 16-year-old boy in Doncaster.

    The teenager reported being attacked while on Town Fields at around 14:00 on 10 May.

    The boy managed to escape towards Elmfield Park a short time later.

    He went to the police a couple of days later.

    Daniel Whetstone, 29, collided with a white lorry on the ring road near to Stonebridge Lane at around 06:00 on 18 May.

    Officers want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident.

    The competition is for young people who live in Leeds aged 13 to 19 years old.

    Police have been given more time to question a man over the death of a baby.

    The 22 month-old girl died at Sheffield Children's Hospital yesterday, having been brought there from her home in Gleadless by ambulance.

    A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

    Magistrates have granted police a further 36 hours to question him.

    The baby girl died from severe head injuries.

    North Yorkshire Police officers are investigating after a 12-year-old boy was approached by a man in a van.

    The vehicle pulled up alongside the boy, who was walking alone on in Crosshills near Skipton, yesterday afternoon.

    The man in the passenger seat got out and started to approach the boy.

    The driver shouted something and the boy ran away.

    Police have asked anyone who might have seen the incident to contact them.
