    The BBC understands that the Kumali ride at Flamingo Land in North Yorkshire has become stuck.

    It appears the ride stopped on its initial ascent with about 20 passengers on board.

    Witnesses said people were being taken off the ride safely.

    The BBC has approached Flamingo Land for a comment.

  2. New strike dates for Hull College Grouppublished at 17:39 British Summer Time 31 May 2018

    The University and College Union (UCU) has announced they will hold another seven days worth of strikes at Hull College, over plans to cut over 200 posts.

    Hull College Group, which runs colleges in Hull, Goole and Harrogate, has started a restructuring plan to deal with a £10m deficit which could see 231 posts closed.

    The UCU says is will hold five days worth of strikes from Monday 18 June and then another two days on Tuesday 26 June and Wednesday 27 June.

    The union says there has not been sufficient progress in talks to secure members’ jobs.

    Two birds have been found tied up in a shopping bag and dumped in a hedge in Bradford, according to the RSPCA.

    The ring-necked parakeets were found by a passerby and taken to a vets in Thornbury last Friday.

    One of the colourful birds was in a "poor condition" and had "extensive feather loss," the RSPCA said.

    The birds - now named Flip and Flop - were taken into specialist care and and once healthy enough will be rehomed.

  5. Passengers lucky escape after bus hits tractorpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 31 May 2018

    Passengers on a bus in Leeds had a lucky escape today after it hit a tractor's bucket as it waited at a junction.

    It happened in Seacroft earlier and badly damaged the front end of the upper deck of the bus.

    Police say there were no injuries to any of the passengers or the driver.

    Officers said both parties had been "advised accordingly about how it could have been avoided".

    A 22-year-old man has been stabbed in Mexborough and police have closed a number of roads in the area.

    It happened at about 14:55 on the Hartley Street Roundabout.

    He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

    Police are still at the scene and have put a cordon in place.

    Officers have closed all roads that connect to the roundabout, including Swinton Road, Wath Road, Greens Way and Hartley Street.

    The widow of North Yorkshire's Lord Lieutenant, who died in a helicopter crash, has said he was a "wonderful man".

    Barry Dodd CBE died on Wednesday when the aircraft crashed in a field and caught fire near Boroughbridge.

    Frances Dodd said her husband lived his life "according to his values of honesty and integrity" and described him as "intelligent, compassionate and visionary".

    "He enjoyed great business success but just as important to him was his devotion to public service and helping others," she said.

    Police, who are investigating racist abuse on a train, want to speak to these two men:

    The incident took place on a train between Leeds and Sheffield in February and officers have already traced two men out of four they initially wanted to find.

    A 38-year-old man has been interviewed and released, a man in his 20s has been eliminated from the inquiry.

    British Transport Police say they still want to track down the two men in the picture, they say they think they could be Leeds United fans.

    Northern, Network Rail and GTR have issued a joint statement, external apologising for the disruption that followed the introduction of a new rail timetable on Sunday 20 May.

    The changes resulted in a lack of drivers, cancelled services and furious commuters and problems have continued on a daily basis.

    The statement says they are working as quickly as they can to improve rail services and encourage people to apply for Delay Repay compensation.

    Wakefield's Conservative group leader has said an inquiry into alleged Islamophobia within the national party would be unnecessary, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    The Muslim Council of Britain publicly demanded an independent investigation into the issue yesterday.

    They cited nine examples of Conservative party members and council candidates across the UK, who they claimed had been involved in Islamophobic incidents in recent months.

    Councillor Nadeem Ahmed, a practising Muslim, said he did not believe there was a problem within the party.

    One of Yorkshire's biggest bus operators has announced huge losses.

    FirstGroup, which runs First Bus, lost £327m in the year to March - compared to a £152m profit previously.

    The company's chief executive Tim O'Toole has stepped down with "immediate effect"

    The group's chairman said the results "fell short of our ambitions".

  14. Investigation into fatal helicopter crash 'continuing'published at 15:29 British Summer Time 31 May 2018

    An investigation into the cause of a helicopter crash, in which North Yorkshire's Lord Lieutenant died, is continuing, the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has said.

    The organisation said inspectors have been working on the crash site, speaking to witnesses and gathering evidence.

    It added the aircraft will be recovered tomorrow and taken to a specialist facility in Farnborough for a detailed examination.

    Barry Dodd CBE was piloting the helicopter and was the only person aboard when it crashed in a field at Aldborough, near Boroughbridge on Wednesday.

    South Yorkshire Police have launched a murder investigation, external after the body of a 73-year-old woman was found in a house at Wombwell in Barnsley.

    Reports were received at around 07:45 this morning that a woman's body had been found with numerous injuries, in the living room of a house on Roy Kilner Road.

    The cause of her death has not been established and the woman has not been named.

    Former England Captain Michael Vaughan said yesterday he would drop fast bowler Stuart Broad.

    England lost the first Test of a home summer for the first time in 23 years, when they suffered a nine-wicket defeat by Pakistan at Lord's on Sunday.

    Vaughan believes the England team are too comfortable and need "ruffling".

    First we had the deer caught in some railings now here's a tale about the fox that got its' head jammed in a bait box.

    She was spotted by some workers struggling to get free on wasteland near Millfield Lane, York on 17 May.

    Helen Martindale, from the RSPCA, tried to free her but eventual had to take the box to the vets.

    The fox was then sedated and her neck was lubricated to get her free.

    A Harrogate-based mental health charity has won a royal award.

    Claro Enteprises has been given the Duke of York's Community Initiative Award, external.

    The Starbeck-based workshop provides employment training to adults who have severe, long-term mental health problems.

    The award confers benefits such as permission to use the royal logo and access a range of workshops with other winners.

  20. Man left with serious injuries after assaultpublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 31 May 2018

    A 28-year-old man has been left with serious injuries after being assaulted in Rotherham.

    It happened at around 21:00 on 29 May on Thorpe Street, near to the junction with Barnsley Road, in Thorpe Hesley.

    Police believe the man was assaulted by two men, external who were in what is believed to be a silver Vauxhall Corsa.

    The victim sustained serious head and body injuries and his mobile phone was stolen, police said.
