The claim's been made in a Leeds City Council report, external looking at plans to demolish the Wetherspoons pub opposite the 13,500-capacity venue.

Proposals for the site include building a 25-storey student accommodation block in place of the pub.

Before it was opened in 2013, it was hoped the £60m arena would lead to the economic regeneration of that part of Leeds city centre and would be the catalyst for new investment.

The report notes that while this has happened on part of Merrion Way, "despite a number of schemes previously coming forward, the area between Merrion Way and the arena remains largely unimproved".

However, it's still in the running to house one of the broadcaster's "creative hubs" and councillor Mazher Iqbal says the authority will "make the very best case for Sheffield".

Mr Iqbal says: "Our unique offer includes the biggest theatre complex outside of London and a thriving film and digital sector.

"We've demonstrated what a creative hub would mean for a generation of talented film, media and production students."

The move would see about 300 of the broadcaster's 800 employers moved out of London to the new regional base.

Meanwhile, Sheffield City Region's new mayor Dan Jarvis says: "While we may not be the chosen location for the new HQ, we can still harness our efforts to bring C4 to Yorkshire."

The artwork, by the authors' brother Branwell, was painted in 1834 and has been at the National Portrait Gallery for over three decades.

It's returning to the Bronte Parsonage Museum in Haworth for the first time since 1984.

Almost two centuries since it was painted at the family home, what appears to be a pale ghost has gradually appeared behind the "pillar" which separates the sisters.

Tests in 2015 revealed Branwell had originally included himself in the painting, but then painted himself out..

The painting will be on display throughout June, July and August, to mark 200 years since Emily Bronte's birth.
