    A 36-year-old man has been arrested after another man was attacked at a bookmakers in Sheffield on Monday.

    The victim, a 31-year-old man, was left with serious facial injuries and remains in hospital.

    Police think the incident was linked to two other incidents.

    A gun was fired later on Monday evening on Wostenholm Road in Nether Edge.

    There was also a disturbance at a takeaway on West Street in the early hours of Tuesday, in which a man was injured.

    A man in his 20s has died after being hit by a car in Tingley.

    The man was on foot on Haigh Moor road and was hit by a red Toyota Prius which was travelling towards Batley Road.

    He was seriously injured and taken to Leeds General Infirmary, but later died.

  4. Funeral held for 'good lad' footballer Ray Wilsonpublished at 17:29 British Summer Time 6 June 2018

    Former England football players were among those to pay their respects to World Cup winner and former Huddersfield town player Ray Wilson at his funeral service today.

    The former left-back died last month, aged 83, following a battle with Alzheimer's disease.

    The funeral was held at Huddersfield Crematorium, and saw fellow 1966 stars Sir Bobby Charlton, his brother Jack Charlton, Sir Geoff Hurst and Norman Hunter among the mourners.

    Former team-mate and England goalkeeper Gordon Banks said: "There are not too many people about like Ray. He really was a lovely guy and a super footballer as well."

    Jack Charlton, another member of the World Cup-winning England side said: "He was always a friend of mine when I came around this area, he was a good lad."

    A couple from Scarborough have been left "heartbroken" after burglars stole the money they'd been saving for their wedding.

    Burglars took £2,000 in the raid at a house on Filey Road last Friday, along with jewellery and designer clothing.

    Police say they're keen to trace the owner of a dark hatchback car with tinted windows, seen parked suspiciously in the area.

    They say they're also keen to trace the owner of a drone, or speak to anyone who saw a drone flying in the area on the day the offence occurred, as they believe they may have vital information.

    Barnsley's new flagship 'Lightbox' , externallibrary building could have its opening hours cut before the building even opens, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    It's part of a cost saving package, external which could result in compulsory redundancies.

    Barnsley Council's library service needs to save more than £160,000 because of funding cuts.

    Proposals have been drawn up which could see most of the district's network of public libraries getting their opening hours cut.

    Only district libraries which are used for additional activities would escape the cut.

    This is the latest picture from a factory fire in Bradford last night:

    At its' height about 60 firefighters were tackling the blaze at the Princes factory on Toftshaw Lane.

    It's thought a plastic bottle-making machine caught fire.

    At first, it was thought people were trapped inside the building, but following a full search of the site it was found to be clear.

    A fire investigation team is now trying to find out what happened.

    Police have issued a picture of a man they went to speak to after a woman was sexually assaulted on a train between Leeds and Bradford.

    The 18-year-old woman on board the train was approached by a man who then touched her inappropriately.

    The man got off the train at Bradford Interchange, British Transport Police.

    Conservative party members say they are boycotting a LGBT Pride event in York due to the "nastiness and venom" directed at them last year.

    The previous York LGBT Pride event was held shortly after the Conservative Party reached a entered into a coalition with the DUP, which opposes same-sex marriage.

    York Conservatives claimed that it "would not be safe" for them to return.

    In response, York Pride said they welcomed the party but people should have a right to free speech.

    A man has died after he was hit by a lorry in the early hours of this morning.

    He was hit at 02:31 on the A642 in Lepton near Huddersfield and died at the scene.

    Police said the man's identity had not yet been established.

    Final plans for Doncaster's new £14 million central library and museum have been approved by council cabinet members.

    The building will also incorporate the historic Hall Cross Girls School building, which the local authority is keen to preserve.

    The centre is due to be completed by 2020.

    The future of struggling discount retailer Poundworld, based in Normanton, is in the balance after the main contender to buy the chain pulled out of talks.

    Alteri Investors, whose website says it specialises in "challenging retail situations", was in advanced talks with Poundworld's owner TPG.

    Poundworld's founder Chris Edwards is understood to be among other possible bidders for the chain of 355 shops.

    He sold out to TPG for £150m, and later took over at rival Poundstretcher.

  18. Girls taken to hospital after taking drugspublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 6 June 2018

    Two girls, aged 12 and 13, have been taken to hospital after taking drugs in Castleford.

    Police stopped a group of teenagers yesterday afternoon and arrested the girls for public order offences, but they were then rushed to hospital.

    They are both currently in a stable condition and officers say they are trying to work out what the girls had taken.

    A 13-year-old boy from Castleford was arrested in connection with drugs-related offences.
