At an event at Aston, near Rotherham, last night, some people who thought the route was going to be some distance from their homes discovered that route changes mean their homes will have to go to make way for the line.

HS2 says as well as talking about the benefits of the scheme, its teams are at the sessions to explain what's planned and to try to reduce their fears.

People who face losing their home can take advantage of a compensation scheme whereby they'll receive an "unblighted" market value for their home, plus 10% and moving costs.

Heart specialists at Leeds General Infirmary have studied more than 4,000 patients who were treated in four separate years.

Researchers say the reason isn't clear so more work needs to be done into it, but some explanations could be delays in treatment and winter infections, they say.
