Official recognition sought for 'inspirational' landscapepublished at 07:53 British Summer Time 13 June 2018
There are calls for the South Pennines to be recognised as a national park or as an Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty.
The stretch of land where Yorkshire meets Lancashire includes Ilkley, Otley, Bradford and Hebden Bridge.
The regeneration agency, Pennine Prospect, says it's the only upland landscape in England which has not been given the highest level landscape designation.
Pennine Prospect chair, Pam Warhurst, who's spearheading the campaign to put the area firmly on the map, says it's been considered as a landscape worthy of designation since the 1940s.
"Its wild, peaty hilltops have proved an inspiration for the Brontes, Ted Hughes and Simon Armitage," she says.
