    The future of England's only motorcycle road circuit is uncertain after a race which has been a fixture on the Scarborough calendar since 1946 was cancelled due to safety concerns.

    Several popular races, including the Cock O'The North meeting, have been cancelled at Oliver's Mount over safety concerns after two accidents at a meeting last year left 12 people injured.

    Scarborough Borough Council says it's terminated the lease with the club running the events and is in talks with other organisations to secure the future of the circuit.

    Guest houses in the town fear they will miss out on business from fans who visit the course.

    Headteacher Charlie Gibbins, from Thurlstone Primary School, taught John "everything he knows" when it comes to football, she says tongue-in-cheek.

    But was he always destined to be a superstar?

    "He was brilliant", she says.

    "He was a really good little footballer and excelled in PE. He was really really special.

    "He was a very focused boy and worked hard in class, behaved beautifully, and knew exactly what he wanted to do.

    "I'm not surprised he's done well."

    Following an assault that took place in Clarence Street, York, North Yorkshire Police has launched an appeal , externalto find anyone who might have been a witness.

    The incident happened between 01:30 and 01:45 on Saturday 23 June.

    The male victim, a 39-year-old local man, was stood outside Pizza Delasosa speaking with a female who he'd just met.

    Another couple then approached, and following a verbal altercation the male suspect hit the victim twice.

    He knocked him to the floor and caused a significant injury to his lip.

  12. Tribunal rules in favour of Hermes workerspublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 25 June 2018

    An employment tribunal in Leeds has ruled in favour of 65 couriers with the delivery company, Hermes, concluding they're employees rather than self-employed and are therefore entitled to employment rights.

    The GMB union said the case could affect more than 14,000 other Hermes couriers around the country who find themselves on similar contracts.

    The company says it's likely to appeal the decision.

    It was a lengthy, but memorable first press conference for new Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa - here's some of the highlights:

    He says he's watched all 51 of Leeds' games from last season, including two friendlies against Myanmar to get a flavour of the playing staff.

    Looking forward, he admits that the squad needs an overhaul with potentially as many as 15 players leaving and "four or five" areas needing to be strengthened.

    In terms of playing style, "El Loco" is known for positive football and says he will stay true to his attacking ethos.

    He admitted to being impressed at the quality of the Championship, going as far as saying that it "exceeds" what he expected when he first arrived.

    Despite using a translator throughout the press conference Bielsa said he'd had English lessons for 15 years when he was younger and he will try to speak in English.

    It looks like this squirrel has been desperate for the weather to warm up and for the sun to come out, so they can get the motorbike out of the garage.

    Spotted at Sheffield's Botanical Gardens, photographer Simon Dell snapped this squirrel taking an interest in a toy motorbike.

    I just hope he's got a helmet squirrelled away for when he hits the open road!

  17. Body-worn cameras rolled out for police officerspublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 25 June 2018

    Police officers in North Yorkshire are beginning to wear body-worn cameras, in a move the force says will protect both members of the public and police officers.

    Initially, just firearms and response officers will wear them.

    Custody staff will also have them.

    Police say benefits include increased conviction rates, a reduction in complaints against officers, and an increase in guilty pleas because of better evidence.

    Although the cameras will be worn during an entire shift, the officers can only turn them on when responding to an incident or working certain operations.

  18. Appeal launched over Birstall near misspublished at 15:55 British Summer Time 25 June 2018

    An appeal has been launched, external by West Yorkshire Police to find a driver who was involved in a near-miss collision in Birstall earlier this month.

    The incident, which took place at about 18:00 on Thursday 14 June in Low Lane, resulted in a cyclist being thrown over his handlebars and fracturing both elbows.

    The driver of the vehicle is described as being female and middle-aged.

    Police say she initially got out of her car, which is believed to be a dark-coloured Ford Focus or Fiesta, and spoke to the cyclist before leaving the scene without exchanging details.

    Officers would also like to speak to anyone else who may have witnessed this incident.

  19. Sheffield FC withdraws from Women's Championshippublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 25 June 2018

    Sheffield FC, a women's football team which has been playing for the last 15 years, is to withdraw from the league as it's becoming too expensive.

    The Dronfield-based side has played in the FA Women’s Championship, but the club's directors now say that will end.

    However, Sheffield FC says it will continue to participate in girls' and women's football.

    A North Yorkshire Police officer has shared photographs and video of a stolen van found burnt out in a farmer's field.

    The white van is thought to have been stolen from near Boroughbridge before being torched in Thornton Bridge near Helperby:
